Job description

Job Title: Mast Mechanical Design Lead

Location:

Salary:
Up to GBP 70,000 depending on skills and experience

Join a dynamic role as a Mast Mechanical Design Lead at the forefront of real-world demands in the defence industry. You will ensure operational excellence for existing products and have opportunities to develop next-generation radar products to counter emerging threats, contributing to our strategy for new technology. Your daily activities will be exciting and diverse, applying engineering principles across the entire development lifecycle to develop radar systems used by those who serve and protect us.


What you'll be doing:
  1. Provide expert knowledge in systems engineering, ISO 15288, and specialist mechanical engineering to develop or resolve problems related to complex shipborne structures with integrated sensor configurations.
  2. Lead technical and business aspects, possibly managing multiple engineering teams and controlling associated costs.
  3. Analyze, define, evaluate, plan, and deliver solutions aligned with programme, business, and customer requirements.
  4. Interface with customers, suppliers, and other functions, acting as an engineering ambassador.
  5. Assist in developing engineering capabilities and monitor professional development of engineers to meet future discipline requirements.
Your skills and experience:
  • Expertise in Mechanical Engineering, particularly Structures and Finite Element Analysis (Static and Dynamic Shock and Vibration) or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to generate requirements and translate concepts into production-ready designs.
  • Experience with CAD, Mechanical Engineering Analysis, Modelling, and Simulation tools.
  • Experience leading large-scale complex system designs.
  • Knowledge of engineering lifecycle models (e.g., Waterfall, Agile).
  • Higher education in a relevant STEM discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.

The Radar Systems Engineering team:

The Integrated Mast Mechanical Design Lead is a subject matter expert responsible for conceptual development of future shipborne mast structures housing radars, sensors, communications, and ship services. This role offers opportunities to enhance your skills, develop technical leadership, and work with contemporary Radar techniques.
