Job summary

Electus Recruitment is seeking a Principal Systems Safety Engineer / Safety Engineering Lead in Bristol. Hybrid working, circa £70,000 plus bonus and pension.

You will lead a team delivering safety across complex maritime defence systems and influence design decisions from concept to certification. We are looking for professionals with strong systems/product safety background, experience in hazard analysis, fault tree analysis and safety case development, and a proven track record in leadership

Qualifications

• Strong background in systems safety or product safety.
• Experience applying safety engineering techniques to complex equipment.
• Knowledge of hazard analysis, functional failure analysis, fault tree analysis and safety case development.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers.
• Understanding of how safety engineering supports systems development, design assurance and certification.
• Familiarity with safety standards, ideally Defence Standard 00-056.
• Strong communication and the ability to challenge technical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of safety engineers while remaining involved in technical delivery.
• Provide technical direction on hazard analysis, risk assessment and safety engineering activities.
• Oversee the development of safety cases, hazard analyses and supporting evidence.
• Influence safety decisions across product development with systems engineering and design teams.
• Ensure safety engineering is integrated into engineering processes.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety methods, processes and practices.
