Pole Star, a leader in maritime intelligence, seeks a Maritime Security Analyst to monitor security threats to vessels, ports, and offshore assets. You will produce actionable intelligence using OSS, vessel data, and geospatial analysis, supporting security decisions across the organization.

The ideal candidate will be curious, calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and able to communicate clearly with security specialists and operational stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Monitor global and regional maritime security developments, including conflict, piracy, terrorism, sanctions evasion, and cyber threats.
• Conduct all-source and open-source research using reputable government, commercial, industry, media, and local reporting sources.
• Analyse vessel movements, port activity, voyage patterns, and incident data to identify anomalies and potential threats.
• Produce concise intelligence products such as daily briefs, risk assessments, incident summaries, route advisories, and executive reports.
• Collaborate with maritime operations, fleet management, compliance, legal, and crisis management teams.
• Identify intelligence gaps and recommend collection priorities, monitoring requirements, or additional research.
• Maintain awareness of international regulations and good practices in maritime security and intelligence.

The Opportunity:

Clearwater Dynamics is seeking a Maritime Security Analyst to help protect vessels, ports, offshore assets, crews, and maritime operations from security threats. In this role, you will monitor the maritime operating environment, assess emerging risks, produce actionable intelligence, and support security decision-making across the organization.

You will combine open-source intelligence, vessel and voyage data, geospatial information, incident reporting, and structured analytical methods to identify threats and translate complex information into clear recommendations. The ideal candidate is curious, calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and able to communicate effectively with both security specialists and operational stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor global and regional maritime security developments, including conflict, piracy, armed robbery at sea, terrorism, civil unrest, sanctions evasion, smuggling, illegal fishing, geopolitical tensions, cyber threats, and disruptions to maritime trade.
• Conduct all-source and open-source research using reputable government, commercial, industry, media, and local reporting sources.
• Analyse vessel movements, port activity, voyage patterns, geographic risk factors, and incident data to identify anomalies and potential threats
• Produce concise intelligence products such as daily briefs, risk assessments, incident summaries, route advisories, watch-floor updates, and executive reports.
• Support voyage, port-call, and operational risk assessments with clear ratings, evidence, assumptions, and mitigation recommendations.
• Track incidents and maintain accurate records of threats, alerts, security events, and lessons learned.
• Provide timely information during developing incidents and support escalation, notification, and response procedures.
• Collaborate with maritime operations, fleet management, compliance, legal, insurance, crisis management, and technology teams.
• Contribute to threat-monitoring procedures, analytical standards, dashboards, and reporting workflows
• Brief internal stakeholders on significant developments and explain the operational implications of emerging risks.
• Identify intelligence gaps and recommend collection priorities, monitoring requirements, or additional research.
• Help improve analytical tools, geospatial products, and processes used to support maritime security decisions.
• Maintain awareness of relevant international regulations, industry guidance, and good practices in maritime security and intelligence analysis.

Required Skills

• Experience in maritime security, intelligence analysis, risk analysis, security operations, international affairs, emergency management, or a closely related field.
• Working knowledge of maritime threats, vessel operations, ports, shipping routes, and the broader commercial maritime environment.
• Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate source reliability, identify patterns, and distinguish fact from assessment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, decision-ready products.
• Experience working with structured information, incident databases, geospatial data, vessel-tracking platforms, or other analytical tools.
• Sound judgment and the ability to prioritize under time pressure, particularly during fast-moving security events.
• High attention to detail and a disciplined approach to documentation, quality assurance, and information handling.
• Ability to work collaboratively across functions and communicate with colleagues from varied technical and operational backgrounds.
• A flexible, learning-oriented mindset and an interest in global security, maritime trade, and geopolitical affairs.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in a maritime operations center, fusion center, security operations center, intelligence team, shipping company, port environment, naval or coastguard organization, or risk consultancy.
• Familiarity with vessel-tracking, geospatial, incident-management, or intelligence-analysis platforms.
• Experience producing geospatial analysis, risk maps, visual briefings, or executive dashboards.
• Knowledge of maritime security frameworks, including the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code and relevant industry guidance.
• Experience with structured analytical techniques, horizon scanning, scenario development, or trend analysis.
• Professional certifications in intelligence analysis, security management, business continuity, or maritime security.
• Additional language skills relevant to maritime operating regions.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in maritime studies, international security, intelligence studies, geography, international relations, criminology, emergency management, or a related discipline.

What success looks like:

Within your first six months, you will:

• Deliver timely, accurate, and useful maritime security reporting.
• Build trusted working relationships with operational and security stakeholders
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of Clearwater Dynamics’ risk priorities and escalation procedures.
• Improve the consistency and usability of threat assessments and incident records.
• Identify meaningful trends or emerging risks before they materially affect operations.

Working Style:

This role may involve participation in an on-call or rotational monitoring schedule, including occasional work outside standard business hours during significant incidents. The position requires discretion when handling sensitive information and the ability to remain composed, objective, and methodical in uncertain situations.
