Job summary

A leading recruitment firm is seeking an experienced Marine Pipefitter to join a busy team in the ship repair industry. The role involves fabrication, installation, and repair of piping systems aboard vessels, requiring adherence to marine, safety, and regulatory standards. Key responsibilities include reading schematics, conducting pressure tests, and maintaining safety procedures. The hourly pay ranges from £19 to £21, equating to an annualized salary of £39,520 - £43,680 depending on experience. Overtime is available at x1.5 pay.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of shipboard systems such as fuel, hydraulic, and seawater.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and heights.

Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Marine Pipefitter to join their busy team in the ship repair industry. This role involves the fabrication, installation, repair, modification, and testing of piping systems aboard vessels and within shipyard facilities, adhering to marine, safety, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret isometric drawings, schematics, and specifications
  • Work alone or as part of a team to complete projects within timescales and budget
  • Fabricate, install, remove, and repair shipboard piping systems (steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminium, CuNiFe and plastic (ABS))
  • Perform layout, cutting, bending, threading, and fitting of pipe systems
  • Install valves, fittings, flanges, gaskets, hangers, and supports
  • Conduct hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing
  • Remove and replace damaged or obsolete piping systems
  • Perform hot work operations including welding, brazing, and cutting (as qualified)
  • Work in confined spaces, tanks, bilges, and overhead environments
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and shop machinery safely and effectively
  • Follow shipyard safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and environmental regulations
  • Coordinate work with welders, engineers, inspectors, and other trades
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas
  • Document work performed and report progress to supervisors
Job Requirements
  • Experience as a pipefitter in marine or ship repair environments
  • Ability to read and interpret marine piping drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of shipboard systems (fuel, hydraulic, seawater, steam, compressed air, etc.)
  • Experience with flanged, welded, and threaded piping systems
  • Familiarity with UK marine standards
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Shipyard or naval vessel experience
  • City and Guilds / NVQ / Equivalent trade certification
  • Ability to pass government or facility background checks
Salary and other info
  • £19-£21/h (£39,520 - £43,680) Dependant on experience
  • 40 hour standard week
  • Overtime after 40 hours paid at x1.5
