Job summary

Expleo Group in the United Kingdom is seeking a Gear Manufacturing Engineer to support marine and defence programmes. You will contribute to the industrialisation of new products, process development and manufacturing tooling, while driving quality and efficiency across manufacturing operations.

You will assess manufacturability, lead PFMEA activities, interpret drawings, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver right-first-time production and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering or equivalent.
• Professional membership in engineering institution (e.g., IMechE, IMarEST, IET).

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and practical problem-solving expertise to manufacturing and assembly teams, ensuring products are built to the required quality standards and delivered in line with programme milestones.
• Act as the primary interface between Engineering and Manufacturing, facilitating clear communication and ensuring technical requirements are accurately understood and implemented.
• Assess component manufacturability and manufacturing process capability, providing recommendations to achieve right-first-time production and support design reviews with manufacturing-focused input.
• Lead and participate in PFMEA activities, including process mapping, risk assessment, mitigation planning, and the development and approval of manufacturing procedures and work instructions.
• Design and implement bespoke tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing methods while ensuring compliance with applicable Machinery Safety Regulations and standards.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Manufacturing, Design Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain, as well as external stakeholders such as suppliers and auditors.
• Create and maintain manufacturing work orders, technical packs, process routings, and operational instructions to support efficient production activities.
• Interpret engineering drawings and specifications, producing manufacturing documentation and shop-floor instructions as required.
• To have a good understanding of the implications and practices associated with heat treatment processes.
• Ensure manufacturing plans and processes comply with quality assurance requirements and support the achievement of product conformity.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing quality, reducing cycle times, improving process capability, and increasing operational efficiency.
