Job Location: Norfolk, VA
Rate of Pay: $26.00 per hour (No per diem available)
Shift: 6:00 AM to 2:45 PM & 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Security Clearance: No Clearance Required

DESCRIPTION:

Hutco, Inc. is a leader in maritime employment, placing dedicated employees into the best positions in ship construction, repair, and maintenance. We currently have an exciting opportunity for Marine Electricians J1 - J4 to join our Electric Shop in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for eight (8) qualified Marine Electricians for this role. Come be part of the vital work we do in shipbuilding and repair.

GUIDELINES FOR MARINE ELECTRICIAN:

JOURNEYPERSON 4 (Marine Electrician):

  • Proficient at reading and interpreting electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Skilled in planning, laying-out, and installing equipment and cabling.
  • Competent in using VOMs, Meggers, Amp and Phase rotation meters, and other test equipment for troubleshooting, testing, and circuit analysis.
  • Capable of leading and training junior electricians with minimum supervision.
  • Proficient at troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical problems down to the component level.
  • Able to accomplish standard items 009-36 and 16’s on electrical/electronic equipment.
  • Capable of passing Connectorization School when training becomes available.
  • Strong knowledge of standard items and epism.
  • Meets or exceeds all the requirements listed for Journeyperson 3, 2, and 1.

JOURNEYPERSON 3 (Marine Electrician):

  • Solid working knowledge of standard items and epism.
  • Skilled at using electrical test equipment.
  • Proficient at reading and interpreting schematics and blueprints.
  • Licensed to operate trade-related industrial equipment.
  • Well-developed troubleshooting skills.
  • Capable of laying out and installing equipment and cabling under the direction of a supervisor or lead electrician.
  • Understanding of power distribution, motors, controllers, transformers, circuit protection, and cable ampacity.
  • Meets or exceeds all the requirements listed for Journeyperson 2 and 1.

JOURNEYPERSON 2 (Marine Electrician):

  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical theory, ship’s electrical safety, and good work practices.
  • Proficient in electrical safety and work practices.
  • Able to use power and hand tools associated with the trade.
  • Knowledge of ship’s compartmental layout.
  • Capable of running cable, including banding, packing transits, and packing tubes under the direction of a supervisor or senior electrician.
  • Capable of installing and hooking up electrical equipment using drawings or “run sheets” under the supervision of a senior electrician.
  • Meets or exceeds all the requirements listed for Journeyperson 1.

JOURNEYPERSON 1 (Marine Electrician):

  • Enrolled in and passing pre-approved classes on electrical theory, blueprint reading, and electrical fundamentals.
  • Able to follow instructions from a supervisor.
  • Able to install temporary services using correct wire and breaker sizes.
  • Basic knowledge of a ship’s compartmental layout.
