Job summary

Thales in Glasgow is seeking a Manufacturing Technician to support the production and testing of optical/camera‑based systems. The role is full time with weekend Friday–Sunday shifts, located in Glasgow.

You will contribute to optical assembly, alignment, and testing across multi‑disciplinary teams. The role requires practical hands‑on skills, a good grasp of physics, and the ability to work independently while coordinating with peers.

Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of physics with hands‑on experimental ability.
  • Aptitude for testing and assembling optical subassemblies.
  • Comfort working both independently and in teams.
  • Clear written and spoken communication with peers and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Optical alignment and construction of optical subassemblies.
  • Bonding using optical adhesives and careful handling/ cleaning.
  • Interferometric analysis of optical components.
  • Calibrating optical subassemblies and tooling.
  • Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams.

Job description

Location: Glasgow, United Kingdom

Manufacturing Technician - Cameras

Role: Full Time

Hours: Friday - Sunday Weekend shift

Due to demand we’re looking for a technician to join our team in Glasgow to support us in the manufacturing process and test of multiple military based products. We are looking to expand the night shift.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Optical alignment and construction of optical subassemblies
  • Complex optical bonding using a mixture of optical adhesives
  • Optical handing and cleaning
  • Analysis of optical components using interferometers etc.
  • Calibration of optical subassemblies and tooling
  • Work in multi-disciplinary teams
About You
  • A good understanding of general physics
  • Good practical and experimental skills
  • Inquisitiveness – ability to question results and then answer those questions
  • Self‑motivated and capable of working alone and within teams
  • Good written and oral communication skills to allow effective communication with peers, and both technical and non‑technical customers.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of optical instruments
  • Knowledge of interferometry
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering
  • Experience with opto‑mechanical components and manufacture.
  • Optical handing and cleaning
  • Optical bonding
