Job summary

Orion Electrotech - Midlands is seeking a Manufacturing Team Leader in Redditch to lead and develop the Manufacturing Engineering team, Tool Room personnel and apprentices. You will drive process improvements and oversee tooling, manufacturing systems and project delivery in a highly regulated environment.

You will apply lean methodologies, read engineering drawings, and manage changes while collaborating with production, quality and leadership teams to ensure safe, efficient and compliant

Qualifications

• HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in an Engineering or Manufacturing discipline.
• Previous leadership experience within a Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering or Tool Room environment.
• Strong understanding of tooling, machining, welding cells and manufacturing processes.
• Experience managing and developing technical teams, including apprentices and junior engineers.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Lean Manufacturing methodologies including Six Sigma, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, 6S and Kanban.
• APQP methodologies including PFMEA, Control Plans and PPAPs.
• Experience working within aerospace, automotive, defence, energy or similarly regulated manufacturing environments.
• Experience within an AS9100 environment.
• Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop Manufacturing Engineers, Toolmakers and Apprentices.
• Manage workload prioritisation and resource planning across manufacturing engineering and tool room activities.
• Drive continuous improvement, accountability and technical excellence.
• Oversee design, specification, sourcing and commissioning of new production equipment, tooling and systems.
• Support development and implementation of manufacturing processes, fixtures and tooling solutions.
• Provide technical support to production and lead root cause analysis.
• Manage engineering change activities and ensure change control compliance.
• Support project costing through manufacturing routes, tooling requirements and process information.
• Analyse production performance and downtime to implement corrective actions.
• Conduct process risk assessments, PFMEAs and manufacturing readiness reviews.
• Support apprenticeship development through coaching and performance management.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, quality and regulatory requirements.

The Role - Manufacturing Team Leader

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading and developing the Manufacturing Engineering team, Tool Room personnel, and engineering apprentices. You will drive process improvement initiatives, support manufacturing operations, oversee tooling activities, and ensure engineering projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with quality standards.

Working closely with production, quality and leadership teams, you will provide technical direction, allocate resources, develop team capability, and support the successful introduction of new products, tooling and manufacturing processes within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities - Manufacturing Team Leader

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of Manufacturing Engineers, Toolmakers and Apprentices.
