Orion Electrotech Ltd is seeking a Manufacturing Team Leader in Redditch to lead the Manufacturing Engineering team, Tool Room personnel and apprentices. You will drive process improvement and ensure safe, compliant manufacturing of high‑quality products in a regulated environment.

You will collaborate with production, quality and leadership to allocate resources, develop capability, and introduce new tooling and processes while maintaining strong safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• HND, degree or equivalent in engineering or manufacturing.
• Leadership experience in a manufacturing engineering, production engineering or tool room.
• Strong understanding of tooling, machining, welding cells and processes.
• Experience leading technical teams including apprentices and junior engineers.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and docs.
• Knowledge of Lean methods: Six Sigma, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, 6S, Kanban.
• Experience with APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans and PPAPs.
• Experience in aerospace, automotive, defence, energy or regulated environments.
• AS9100 experience.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

• Coach apprentices and participate in training and performance management.

The Role – Manufacturing Team Leader

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading and developing the Manufacturing Engineering team, Tool Room personnel, and engineering apprentices. You will drive process improvement initiatives, support manufacturing operations, oversee tooling activities, and ensure engineering projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with quality standards.

Working closely with production, quality and leadership teams, you will provide technical direction, allocate resources, develop team capability, and support the successful introduction of new products, tooling and manufacturing processes within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities – Manufacturing Team Leader

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of Manufacturing Engineers, Toolmakers and Apprentices.
• Manage workload prioritisation and resource planning across manufacturing engineering and tool room activities.
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and technical excellence.
• Oversee the design, specification, sourcing and commissioning of new production equipment, tooling and manufacturing systems.
• Support the development and implementation of manufacturing processes, fixtures and tooling solutions.
• Provide technical support to production and lead root cause analysis and problem-solving activities.
• Manage engineering change activities and ensure compliance with change control procedures.
• Support project costing through the provision of manufacturing routes, tooling requirements and process information.
• Analyse production performance, downtime trends and recurring issues to implement long-term corrective actions.
• Conduct process risk assessments, PFMEAs and manufacturing readiness reviews.
• Support apprenticeship development through coaching, training and performance management.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, quality and regulatory requirements.

Requirements – Manufacturing Team Leader

• HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in an Engineering or Manufacturing discipline.
• Previous leadership experience within a Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering or Tool Room environment.
• Strong understanding of tooling, machining, welding cells and manufacturing processes.
• Experience managing and developing technical teams, including apprentices and junior engineers.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing methodologies including Six Sigma, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, 6S and Kanban.
• Knowledge of APQP methodologies including PFMEA, Control Plans and PPAPs.
• Experience working within aerospace, automotive, defence, energy or similarly regulated manufacturing environments.
• Experience within an AS9100 environment.
• Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
