Qualifications

  • At least 5 years in a similar operations role within manufacturing.
  • Training in Continuous Improvement Techniques such as Six Sigma or LEAN.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and plant management is essential.

Job description

Thrive Oldham is recruiting a Manufacturing Site Manager for our well-established client in the Merthyr, South Wales area.

Working as part of the Senior Leadership team, the Operations Manager will assume overall responsibility for Production, Planning, Quality, Maintenance, Warehouse/Logistics, and Facilities. Leading teams to ensure the health & safety of all associates is of the highest priority, while maintaining high standards of housekeeping & organization, and achieving production plans to meet or exceed customer expectations.

The role involves managing & reporting departmental KPIs and plans for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:
  • Reduce all internal risks & ensure adherence to all Health & Safety regulations.
  • Promote high standards of product quality and maintain excellent housekeeping throughout the factory.
  • Ensure all production targets and plans are achieved in line with requirements.
  • Maintain control over labor costs, including overtime, within the budget.
  • Manage production supervision & associates in daily manufacturing activities, ensuring KPI targets are met or exceeded.
  • Address labor and quality concerns promptly by managing workforce output.
  • Implement long-term growth plans and develop strategies to achieve production goals.
  • Ensure a "right first time" approach to quality.
  • Plan resources & schedule workloads in line with customer demands.
  • Manage & control all processes/equipment to ensure high productivity, actively identifying potential bottlenecks and devising plans to address them.
  • Maintain tight control of timekeeping & attendance.
  • Attend internal and customer meetings to ensure objectives are met.
  • Communicate effectively across departments and encourage feedback.
  • Promote product and customer awareness among production staff, fostering continuous improvement.
  • Support business management teams in implementing policies, standards, and goals.
  • Provide motivation, support, and guidance to all staff.
  • Actively promote and document training & development of employees.
  • Ensure manufacturing flexibility charts are current and relevant.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
  • Zero reportable incidents
  • High housekeeping standards throughout manufacturing
  • Achievement of monthly plans/forecasts
  • Customer On-Time Delivery percentage
  • Production loading
  • Labor costs & Overtime
  • Scrap & internal rejects
  • Employee morale & interaction with shopfloor associates
  • Continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Experience:
  • At least 5 years in a similar operations role within manufacturing.
  • Degree or HNC in business operations management or related field.
  • Training in Continuous Improvement Techniques such as Six Sigma or LEAN.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Experience in solving tactical operational issues with strategic implications.
  • Hands-on approach, visible and engaging with all team members.
  • Ability to inspire and coach a high-performing team.
  • Organized, methodical, and calm under pressure.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and plant management is essential.
