AMLR are looking for a Manufacturing Lead to join a leading aerospace manufacturer based in Consett. This is an exciting opportunity to take a leadership role within a high-performance manufacturing environment, overseeing production operations and driving improvements across Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and People.
Key responsibilities for Manufacturing Lead
- Leading and managing the manufacturing operation to meet and exceed customer requirements across Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and People.
- Promoting company Health, Safety & Environmental policies and standards, including ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and ISO 18001.
- Working with the wider site team to reduce accidents, near misses and environmental risks through proactive HS&E management and 6S principles.
- Supporting site audits, legislative requirements and action plans to continually improve safety performance.
- Leading and making decisions on quality and engineering queries, with training provided where required.
- Developing a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring quality standards and procedures are consistently maintained.
- Managing internal and external quality concerns through effective communication, SQCDP meetings and robust problem-solving methodologies.
- Driving quality performance towards a zero-defect target through proactive quality measures and root cause analysis.
- Supporting cost reduction and continuous improvement activities to improve profitability and value for customers.
- Driving improvements in delivery performance through Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Generating and monitoring visual operational KPIs to track manufacturing performance.
- Leading the shift towards achieving 99% scheduled attainment.
- Optimising production output through efficiency improvements and effective staff performance management.
- Developing employees through training, upskilling and supporting recruitment and training strategies.
- Managing employee relations, including disciplinary matters, grievances, sickness absence, appraisals and holiday systems.
- Creating a positive working environment through effective leadership, communication, inclusion and employee development.
- Setting clear direction and ensuring appropriate standards of behaviour and conduct are maintained.
Requirements for Manufacturing Lead
- Proven leadership experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Extensive knowledge of production processes, ideally within the aerospace or automotive industry.
- Strong commercial awareness with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the business.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop teams.
- Strong commitment to continuous improvement across manufacturing, quality, health, safety and environmental performance.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques, Kaizen, 6S and other modern manufacturing methods.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to changing customer requirements, overtime needs, shift changes and manpower planning
- Educated to, or willing to work towards, a Level 3/5 management qualification or equivalent.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to plan, manage and deliver projects and tasks through to completion.
- Strong analytical and presentation skills with the ability to monitor and communicate operational performance.
