Job summary

A Manufacturing Laboratory Technician role based in Edgbaston is seeking a dedicated individual to join our client’s life sciences team. This temporary position offers a full-time schedule (Mon-Fri 08:00-16:30) with an hourly rate of £13.53 and a 12-month contract length.

Responsibilities include managing workloads to published plans, maintaining materials, executing equipment-related activities, conducting process training, and supporting ELISA and RID kit production, all while adhering to SOPs

Qualifications

  • GCSE level or a relevant degree is required.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory environment is essential.
  • Experience with workload management or planning is desirable.

  • Ensure materials are available and transacted efficiently to complete assigned work.
  • Own and execute scheduled activities for designated equipment, area, or function.

About the Role

As a Manufacturing Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the performance of innovative products. Your contributions will uphold the organisation's reputation for excellence and groundbreaking ideas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently manage your workload according to a published plan.
  • Ensure materials are available and efficiently transacted to complete assigned work.
  • Own and execute scheduled activities for designated equipment, area, or function.
  • Routinely conduct training on specific processes within the team.
  • Manufacture and test ELISA kit components and support the production of RID kit components.

  • Take responsibility for your work to ensure it is completed 'right first time.'
  • Utilise your knowledge and skills to troubleshoot and suggest effective mitigation measures.
  • Set and meet goals, and maintain deadlines with a proactive approach.
  • Identify and implement improvement initiatives across all aspects of your work.
Requirements
  • Education: GCSE level with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience, or a relevant degree.
  • Essential: Previous experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Preferred: Experience in workload management and planning.
  • Skills: Proven documentation, communication, and digital literacy.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Excel.
  • Practical knowledge of units of measurement and basic mathematical skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Familiarity with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and chemical hygiene.
  • Ability to handle solutions and chemicals safely.
  • Capable of lifting objects up to 20 kilogrammes.
  • Willingness to work overtime at short notice, including weekends, to support the department as needed.
