Job summary

SAFRAN Engineering Services in Wolverhampton is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to drive industrialisation and improve production across multiple projects. You will lead process design, PFMEA, APQP/PPAP activities and collaborate with engineering, manufacturing and quality assurance teams.

Based in the UK, you will optimize manufacturing performance, cut costs, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance while supporting cross-functional teams through NPI milestones and BOM accuracy checks.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in an aerospace or automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with company and regulatory processes, standards and specifications.
  • Good knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly principles.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • APQP & PPAP familiarity.
  • PFMEA familiarity.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and tools (SPC, R&R, MSA).
  • Ability to interpret 2D drawings / 3D CAD modelling.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse current manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement process improvements, possibly designing and installing new equipment.
  • Participate in design reviews and work with design engineers to implement solutions.
  • Ensure products can be manufactured reliably and perform consistently in specified environments.
  • Evaluate processes using product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling and materials knowledge.
  • Maintain manufacturing process documentation and specifications.
  • Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed.
  • Conduct make vs buy analyses and drive changes with purchasing and design.
  • Estimate build times and line balance; apply lean principles to eliminate waste.
  • Produce APQP & PPAP documentation (PFMEA, control plan, work instructions, MSA & capability studies).
  • Lead PFMEA reviews to drive product and process improvements.
  • Identify tooling/equipment needs and write supplier-quoting specs.
  • Support programme milestones (PDR, CDR, Test builds, PTR, PPAP).
  • Check BOM accuracy and relay discrepancies to design; create production BOM.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and update industrialisation timing plans.
  • Highlight opportunities for continuous improvement and implement them.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety policy.

Job description

In order to develop and expand our Industrialisation Department at SAFRAN Engineering Services in the UK, we are looking to recruit Manufacturing Engineers. The industrialisation department is responsible for the development and introduction of new and updated products into production on time, to cost and to a high quality standard.

The Manufacturing Engineer will have a solid knowledge and understanding of the new product introduction process and be working at a competent/proficient level. He will play a crucial role in the development and improvement of manufacturing processes. This position focuses on driving efficiency, enhancing quality, and reducing costs in manufacturing operations across various projects.

The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop / implement manufacturing solutions that align with Safran's operational goals and to facilitate the implementation of APQP processes. Your responsibilities will include conducting assessments, using problem solving methodology, participating in process design, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.

The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to develop and maintain effective processes that enhance product reliability and customer satisfaction.

This position will be based in Wolverhampton.

Key aspects of this job include the following:

  • Analyse current manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement
  • Develop and implement process improvements, which may involve designing and installing new manufacturing equipment
  • Participate in design reviews throughout each phase of the new product introduction process. Make improvement suggestions and work with design engineers to implement a viable solution
  • Ensure products can be manufactured reliably and perform consistently in specified operating environments
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials
  • Maintain manufacturing process documentation, including technical reports and process specifications
  • Ensure all manufacturing safety regulatory policies and procedures are implemented and maintained
  • Conduct make vs buy analysis on new product designs and look for optimisation opportunities. Work with the purchasing and design departments to drive required changes
  • Estimate build times and required number of stations for new production processes. Carry out line balancing of operations. Using lean principles, identify opportunities for improvement and make required changes to eliminate wastes
  • Produce APQP & PPAP documentation - process flow, PFMEA, control plan, work instructions, MSA & capability studies
  • Prepare and lead PFMEA reviews. Use the outcome to drive product and process improvements
  • Identify tooling and equipment requirements for new assembly processes and write specification documents that will be used as basis for supplier quotation. If needed. work with suppliers to ensure requirements are met.
  • Support the programme team in the delivery of industrialisation milestones for key events such as PDR, CDR, Test builds, PTR and PPAP
  • Check accuracy of BOM against build requirements and communicate any discrepancies to the design team. Create production BOM from engineering BOM
  • Participate in and contribute to route cause analysis sessions
  • Compile and update industrialisation timing plan for new programmes and feed into programme level timing plan
  • Highlight opportunities for continuous improvement and implement
  • Ensure compliance with the company's health and safety policy at all times
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with customers and suppliers and ensure confidentiality of information is maintained at all times
