Job summary

Optima UK in Coventry is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer with strong fabrication and aerospace experience to join our engineering team.   • Strong knowledge of fabrication processes and manufacturing methods.

  • Experience with NPI and continuous improvement methods.
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Experience in regulated aerospace environments is beneficial.
  • Engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and improve manufacturing processes across fabrication operations.
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to the production and fabrication teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, cost and lead times.
  • Develop manufacturing methods, work instructions and process documentation.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and the introduction of new manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with design and production teams to ensure products are manufacturable and processes are robust.
  • Investigate manufacturing issues and implement effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Support tooling, fixtures and equipment requirements across the fabrication environment.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities using Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Analyse production processes and identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Support quality requirements and ensure manufacturing processes meet aerospace standards.
  • Assist with root-cause analysis, process improvements and technical problem solving.
  • Work closely with Quality, Production and Engineering teams to deliver customer requirements.

Our client is a well-established aerospace manufacturer specialising in the production of high-quality, complex components and assemblies for customers within the aerospace sector. With a strong focus on quality, technical capability and continuous improvement, the business is investing in its manufacturing capabilities and is looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support and improve its fabrication operations.

About the Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineer with a strong fabrication background to join the engineering team. The role will focus on developing, improving and supporting manufacturing processes across the fabrication environment, working closely with production, quality and design teams to ensure products are manufactured safely, efficiently and to the required aerospace standards. This is a hands-on engineering position where you'll have the opportunity to make a genuine impact on process efficiency, manufacturing capability and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

About You
  • Previous experience as a Manufacturing Engineer within a fabrication or aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience supporting production within a hands-on engineering environment.
  • Ability to develop and improve manufacturing processes and documentation.
  • Experience with NPI, continuous improvement and process optimisation.
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Comfortable working closely with production teams and providing practical engineering solutions.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles would be advantageous.
  • Experience working within an aerospace or other highly regulated manufacturing environment would be highly beneficial.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.
