Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Define and control production processes, tooling, and equipment.
  • Validate design specifications and implement new products, tools, and equipment on the shop floor.
  • Drive manufacturing engineering accountability through regular operating rhythms.
  • Evaluate and enhance quality control processes.
  • Analyse and report production performance including methods, schedules, downtime, cycle times, machine availability, and waste.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair activities.
  • Identify and lead improvement projects delivering cost savings and reduced direct labour time.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures and support Kaizen initiatives.

Job description

  • Define and control production processes, tooling, and equipment
  • Validate design specifications and implement new products, tools, and equipment on the shop floor
  • Drive manufacturing engineering accountability through regular operating rhythms
  • Evaluate and enhance quality control processes
  • Analyse and report production performance, including methods, schedules, downtime, cycle times, machine availability, and waste
  • Support selection and approval of new equipment
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies and regulations
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair activities
  • Identify and lead improvement projects delivering cost savings and reduced direct labour time
  • Contribute to Manufacturing Engineering projects with training in Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, problem solving, PFMEA, value stream mapping, process flow diagramming, root cause analysis, mechanical concepts, and materials behaviour
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures and support Kaizen initiatives
  • Support engineering design, production planning, materials management, cost-reduction projects, and introduction of new products and technologies
  • Track New Product Introduction projects and business impact
  • Collect and analyse labour, process stability, and performance data
  • Support yield improvement with metallic and composite manufacturing teams
  • Design tooling and prototypes using CAD/3D modelling software
  • Standardise documentation and share best practices
  • Deliver projects supported by a People Leader and team
Requirements
  • Currently studying an Engineering-related bachelor’s or integrated master’s degree, including Manufacturing, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Design (Engineering), Materials Science & Engineering, Robotics and Mechatronics, or General Engineering
  • On course to achieve a 2:1 degree or above
  • To be in your penultimate year of study and returning to education post placement
  • Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required and must be maintained
  • Permanent right to work in the UK is required; sponsorship is not available for Early Careers opportunities
  • 3D printing and CAD design is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work towards deadlines and as part of a team
