Job summary

Recruitment South East Ltd is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our precision engineering team in the UK. You will design bespoke tooling, program CNC machines, and lead continuous improvement to boost quality and productivity.

The role requires strong CAD/CAM skills (Solidworks, SolidCAM, Vericut) and experience with multi-axis machining in a high-precision environment.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in Manufacturing/Production engineering or 10+ years of industry experience.
• Able to read/write NC G-Code and set up CNC programs.
• Proficient in 3D CAD (Solidworks, Creo, Siemens NX, Solid Edge).
• Experience with CAM software (SolidCAM, Edgecam, HyperMill, Mastercam, Siemens NX).
• Experience manufacturing high precision parts for automotive, aerospace, medical or scientific sectors.

Responsibilities

• Improve manufacturing processes and tooling, design fixtures and workholding.
• Program and prove CNC operations (Fanuc, Heidenhain, Mazatrol, CELOS).
• Create Job Setup sheets and manage tooling/fixtures.
• Lead continuous improvement to reduce waste and cost.
• Train operations staff and prepare work instructions.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Reports to: Operations Engineering Manager
We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our engineering team, where you will play a key role in improving manufacturing processes, designing bespoke tooling and fixtures, programming and proving CNC machining operations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, productivity and cost efficiency within a precision engineering environment.

Job Purpose / Primary Objective

• Provides manufacturing decision making information e.g. calculating production/material costs or supporting make or buy decisions
• Design and manufacture bespoke workholding and fixtures using Solidworks (3D modelling and 2D drafting)
• Writing and amending CNC programs both at the machine control (Fanuc, Heidenhain, Mazatrol, CELOS) and using CAD/CAM Software (SolidCAM and Vericut).
• Prove-out CNC programs on the machine.
• Create Job Setup sheets.
• Manage tooling and fixtures for machines.
• Lead operations improvement activities, identify and implement best practise manufacturing methods improving quality and productivity and reducing waste/cost.
• Evaluate and recommend new methods, design changes, tooling and fixtures to reduce manufacturing and assembly time
• Product cost reduction through continuous improvement and product maintenance.
• Train and support operations staff providing expertise and create training manuals and work instructions as required

Essential Skills & Experience

• Extensive experience of cutting Aluminium and Stainless-Steel materials.
• Experience of multi axis CNC machine tools (5 axis, 3+2, Multitasking).
• Experience of fixed-head turning centres.
• Experience producing high complexity, tightly toleranced products such as Automotive, Aerospace, Medical or Scientific industries.
• Able to read and write NC G-Code programs.
• Good analytical skills
• Exposure to low volume and batch production environments
• Knowledge of engineering components (BOMs, Ops and Routings)
• Excellent computer skills (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, email, ERP)
• Determined, with a high level of initiative and energy
• Excellent communication skills
• 3D CAD (e.g. Solidworks, Creo, Siemens NX, Solid Edge, AutoCAD)
• Advanced CAM – Milling & Turning (e.g. SolidCAM, Edgecam, HyperMill, Mastercam, Siemens NX)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

HNC/HND level in Manufacturing/Production engineering (or minimum of 10 years industry experience with served engineering apprenticeship.

Desirable Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years industry experience in similar role.
