What to Expect
A successful Manufacturing Engineer will use his/her process improvement experience to quantitatively assess current production/business system performance and execute change to reduce cost and optimize capacity. This role demands excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a holistic understanding of manufacturing operations.
Manufacturing engineers will be responsible for continuously improving and developing the manufacturing processes that our production team members use to build our cars. This position will be responsible for accepting new model build processes from our Future Manufacturing Engineering teams and developing them within Series production. This includes continuous process improvement, quality lead investigations and industrial engineering tools and techniques.
What You'll Do
- Display a positive attitude and practice strong work ethics that reflects the mission, philosophy and goals of McLaren.
- Maintain process sequence, documentation, and product traceability methodology for the plant.
- Own all aspects of PFMEA activities.
- Lead series engineering change implementation through design reviews for new content.
- Collaborate with engineering teams in leading the design of layout, modelling/simulation, and material flow integration to ensure data aligns with the overall plan and vision for the factory.
- Work with engineering and operation teams to identify and resolve production bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with various engineering teams to determine overall equipment effectiveness and associated improvement strategies.
- Headcount monitoring and liaison with production management.
- Ownership and maintenance of the Hours Per Car (HPC) data for series production ensuring plant efficiency and output targets can be achieved.
- Run time & motion studies across the plant and carryout line balancing activities.
- Develop and deploy a framework of continuous improvement utilising lean principles. Reduce scrap, rework, and cycle times.
- Drive other projects as needed by management or as business needs change.
What You'll Bring
- A degree in mechanical / automotive engineering or similar (2:1 or above) is advantageous or equivalent experience in a similar role.
- Ideally you will have experience with:
- Continuous improvement initiatives within Method, Cost, Quality, Delivery & Safety
- Manufacturing support within a mid to low volume assembly environment
- Hours per Car generation and monitoring
- Vehicle assembly process instructions and visuals
- Trim and Final processes
- End of Line vehicle processing / finishing
Personal Attributes
- As one of our engineers you will naturally have an understanding and appreciation for low volume, high value performance vehicle production and brand requirements.
- We work in a fast-paced environment so the ability to act under pressure with calmness, clarity of thought and decisive authority is crucial. Change is a natural part of our business and candidates must be susceptible to plans and procedures changing frequently.
- You will have the determination to drive forward the business to ‘Best in Class’ performance standards in line with brand expectations and be a lateral thinker able to think outside of the box to make structured and objective decisions
- Other traits of a successful McLaren employee will include excellent communication skills both written and verbal, to all levels of the business. Excellent attention to detail and strong data analysis skills including the use of all Microsoft Office applications, specifically with Microsoft Excel
