Job summary

McLaren Automotive is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer at the McLaren Composite Technology Centre in the UK to drive continuous improvement across manufacturing processes, improve cycle times, reduce scrap, and boost equipment availability while supporting new products and technologies.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a manufacturing engineering role, ideally in composites.
  • Experience with pre-preg composites and various RTM processes is desirable.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills with DMAIC or 8D.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the introduction of new composites products, processes, machinery, and tooling into production.
  • Provide feedback to the design team to ensure robust design for manufacture of composite parts and tooling.
  • Act as the primary Engineering contact for Production and Maintenance teams.
  • Lead initiatives to improve composites manufacturing processes, focusing on reducing cycle time and scrap, enhancing equipment availability, and supporting product repairs and introductions.
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret complex process data to deepen process understanding and inform technical development.
  • Facilitate PPS activities to resolve quality issues within defined timeframes.
  • Maintain and update production process documentation, including process flows, PFMEAs, and control plans.
  • Support the creation and revision of production documents such as SOPs, work instructions, and product standards.
  • Manage engineering changes for existing production parts.
  • Present project status updates and KPIs to stakeholders.

To drive continuous improvement in quality, cost efficiency, cycle time, and equipment availability across the manufacturing processes at the McLaren Composite Technology Centre. This role plays a key part in enhancing operational performance and supporting the introduction of new products and technologies. What You'll Do

  • As a Manufacturing Engineer, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Leading the introduction of new composites products, processes, machinery, and tooling into production.
  • Providing feedback to the design team to ensure robust design for manufacture of composite parts and tooling.
  • Acting as the primary Engineering contact for Production and Maintenance teams.
  • Leading initiatives to improve composites manufacturing processes, focusing on reducing cycle time and scrap, enhancing equipment availability, and supporting product repairs and introductions.
  • Collecting, analysing, and interpreting complex process data to deepen process understanding and inform technical development.
  • Facilitating Practical Problem-Solving (PPS) activities to resolve quality issues within defined timeframes
  • Maintaining and updating production process documentation, including process flows, PFMEAs, and control plans.
  • Supporting the creation and revision of production documents such as standard operating procedures, work instructions, and product standards.
  • Managing engineering changes for existing production parts.
  • Presenting project status updates and key performance indicators (KPIs) to stakeholders.
    Proven experience in a manufacturing engineering role, ideally within the composites manufacturing sector.
  • Experience with pre-preg composite manufacturing is desirable.
  • Experience with high-pressure and low-pressure resin transfer moulding is desirable.
  • Familiarity with engineering CAPEX procurement is advantageous.
  • Proficient in structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, PPS)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead process improvement projects using approaches such as DMAIC.
  • Skilled in handling and analysing large datasets.
  • Capable of establishing accurate and relevant data collection systems.
  • Experience in CAD modelling, preferably for composite components.
  • Knowledge of PFMEA reviews and control plan updates is beneficial.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly.
  • Familiarity with structured change management systems.
  • Excellent IT proficiency.
