Job summary

ENVISAGE RECRUITMENT LIMITED is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer in Northampton to develop and improve manufacturing processes, PFMEAs, control plans, and shop-floor guidance. You will work across production, quality, and maintenance to drive measurable improvements and ensure manufacturability and traceability.

The role focuses on KPI monitoring (OEE, cycle time, downtime), Lean/Kaizen methods, and digital manufacturing initiatives such as data capture and digital build records to support

Qualifications

  • PFMEA, control plans, standard work and Kaizen practices are essential.
  • Experience with root-cause analysis and Lean manufacturing methods is required.
  • Ability to analyze data to drive improvements in OEE, cycle-time and downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and improve manufacturing documentation and operator guidance for shop-floor use.
  • Review, improve and introduce new manufacturing processes via change-management, ensuring safety and cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor and improve manufacturing performance using KPIs (OEE, output, downtime, scrap) and Lean/Kaizen techniques.
  • Support digital manufacturing initiatives—shop-floor data capture, digital build records, traceability and KPI reporting.
  • Design tooling and fixtures using CAD; interpret drawings and collaborate with Design, Quality, Operations and Maintenance to improve manufacturability.

Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Northampton

Salary: Competitive

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8:00am – 4:30pm | Friday, 8:00am – 3:30pm

Contract: Permanent | Full-Time

Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain and improve manufacturing documentation such as PFMEAs, control plans, work instructions, standard work, inspection requirements and operator guidance, ensuring practical and effective shop‑floor use.
  • Review, improve and introduce new manufacturing processes via the change‑management system, ensuring safety, cost‑effectiveness, repeatability and full tooling, equipment, documentation and training readiness.
  • Monitor, analyse and improve manufacturing performance using KPIs (OEE, output, downtime, cycle‑time, scrap, rework), shop‑floor data, root‑cause analysis and Lean/Kaizen techniques to eliminate waste and increase capacity.
  • Support the development of digital manufacturing systems – shop‑floor data capture, digital build records, traceability, manufacturing controls and KPI reporting – to aid capacity planning and operational improvements.
  • Design and implement tooling, jigs, fixtures and manufacturing aids using CAD, interpret engineering drawings and tolerances, and collaborate with Design, Quality, Operations and Maintenance to improve manufacturability, reliability, inspection methods and handover into production.
Qualifications
  • Relevant engineering qualification (degree, HNC/HND, ONC, BTEC, City & Guilds, NVQ Level3) or equivalent experience in a manufacturing/production engineering role.
  • Proven experience with PFMEA, control plans, process instructions, standard work, FMEA, Kaizen, A3, Poka‑Yoke, root‑cause analysis and Lean manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing performance metrics (OEE, COPQ, DLE, takt time, cycle‑time, downtime, scrap, rework) and experience using data to drive improvements.
  • Knowledge of SPC (Cp/Cpk, Pp/Ppk), MSA and gauge R&R, plus analytical tools such as Excel, PowerBI, Minitab.
  • Experience with CAD, interpreting engineering drawings, and familiarity with MES, digital manufacturing systems, traceability and digital build records.
  • Strong project‑management, communication and problem‑solving skills with the ability to collaborate across Production, Quality, Maintenance, Design and Engineering teams.
