Job summary

SJR Partners is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial management for multiple highway, surfacing and civil engineering projects. You will mentor a team of surveyors and oversee interim valuations, final accounts and monthly reports.

The role requires extensive experience in highways or civil engineering, a degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management, and strong NEC contract knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management is essential.
  • Significant highways/surfacing or civil engineering experience required.
  • Experience in a Senior or Managing Quantity Surveyor role.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC forms of contract.
  • Experience managing multiple live projects concurrently.
  • Excellent commercial negotiation and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of multiple contracts from tender handover to final account.
  • Mentor Quantity Surveyors and commercial support staff.
  • Oversee interim applications, valuations and final accounts.
  • Produce monthly commercial reports for senior management.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Contracts and Project Managers to maximise performance.
  • Develop client relationships with authorities, consultants and supply chain partners.
  • Support the Commercial Director with planning, forecasting and strategic decisions.
  • Promote best commercial practice and governance compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of multiple contracts from tender handover through to final account.
  • Manage and mentor Quantity Surveyors, Assistant Quantity Surveyors and commercial support staff.
  • Oversee the preparation, submission and agreement of interim applications, valuations and final accounts.
  • Produce monthly commercial reports for senior management.
  • Work closely with Operational Managers, Contracts Managers and Project Managers to maximise project performance.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, local authorities and supply chain partners.
  • Support the Commercial Director with business planning, forecasting and strategic commercial decisions.
  • Promote best commercial practice and continuous improvement across the business.
  • Ensure all commercial activities are undertaken in accordance with company governance, procedures and ethical standards.

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.

  • Full UK Driving Licence
    Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
