Job description

Managing Quantity Surveyor - Major Infrastructure Project

£70,000-£85,000 + £5,000 car allowance or company car

I'm currently working with a major UK infrastructure contractor who are looking to appoint a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join one of the country's most significant infrastructure projects.

This is a genuinely high-profile project involving the construction of a new road connection including a major tunnel beneath a key waterway. With a project value of more than £1bn, this is an opportunity to join a landmark project that will have a lasting impact on the regions transport network.

As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you'll take a lead role within the commercial function, managing a team of Quantity Surveyors and overseeing the commercial delivery of significant civils packages from the very beginning of the project.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for leading commercial and cost management activities, working closely with the Senior Commercial Manager and wider project team.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Leading and mentoring a team of Quantity Surveyors
  • Managing subcontract administration across civils and/or utility packages
  • Cost management, valuations, forecasting and change control
  • Commercial management of project interfaces and associated risks
  • Managing change and claims in accordance with the contract
  • Working closely with design, construction and client teams to identify and resolve commercial risks
  • Preparing cost/value reconciliations, commercial reports and risk registers
  • Supporting the wider project programme through effective commercial management
  • Identifying opportunities to improve commercial processes through LEAN and digital initiatives
What are they looking for?

The successful Managing Quantity Surveyor will have significant commercial experience gained within major civil engineering, highways or infrastructure projects in the UK, together with the ability to lead a commercial team in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

You should have:
  • Degree/HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying
  • Professional membership of RICS, CIOB or ICES, or be working towards it
  • Strong experience working on major civils/infrastructure projects
  • Excellent commercial and contractual understanding
  • Strong NEC experience, including change and claims management
  • Previous experience managing and developing a commercial teamStrong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills
  • CSCS Professional Qualified Person card
The package
  • Starting salary of £70,000-£85,000, depending on experience
  • £5,000 car allowance or company car
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • Option to purchase up to 10 additional days
  • Private healthcare
  • Private pension
  • Flexible/smart working arrangements where applicable
  • Additional employee benefits, discounts and reward schemes
Why consider it?

There are plenty of MQS roles available, but opportunities to work on infrastructure projects of this scale are considerably less common.

Interested?

If you're an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager with a strong civils/infrastructure background and solid NEC experience, this could be an excellent opportunity to take the next step in your career and work on a project that will be talked about for decades.
