Job summary

Galliford Try is seeking a Commercial Manager to lead day-to-day commercial administration on a Bedford highways project and region-wide schemes. The role emphasizes cost control, change management and risk reporting to ensure alignment with contracts and business requirements.

You will report to the Senior Commercial Manager, manage relationships with clients and subcontractors, and oversee subcontractors and valuation processes while driving commercial excellence and team development.

Qualifications

  • Excellent IT skills with MS Office and commercial systems.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Solid understanding of construction processes and commercial best practices.

  • Experience negotiating contracts and final accounts.

  • Produce monthly applications, CVRs, cost plans and performance reports; forecast expenditures.
  • Lead and develop the commercial team and support bids and estimating.

Commercial Manager
Location – Bedford
What you will be doing:

Galliford Try have a rare and exciting opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join our Local Authority business unit within our Infrastructure division. You will primarily be based on our brand-new highways project in Bedford but you will oversee various other schemes in the region.

You will work closely with the Senior Commercial Manager and operational colleagues, taking full ownership of the day-to-day commercial administration including producing accurate reporting, monitoring commercial performance, and supporting the effective management of cost, change, and risk to ensure the project is delivered in line with contractual and business requirements.

What you will be doing:
  • Promote and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Act as the Project Commercial Lead, managing main contract administration.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders.
  • Prepare and negotiate subcontract documentation, including terms, pricing and programme.
  • Manage subcontract packages, including interim valuations, payments and change control.
  • Manage commercial notices and contract change, including Compensation Event Quotations.

  • Lead and develop the commercial team, support project risk management, and provide contractual support to bids and estimating.
About You:
  • Strong understanding of standard forms of contract.
  • High level of IT capability, including Excel, Word and commercial systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Solid knowledge of construction processes and commercial best practice.
  • Proven ability to manage time, priorities and deliver outcomes.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing and managing teams.
  • Demonstrable experience in negotiation and final account settlement.
  • Professional qualification such as MRICS and relevant CSCS Card.
