Job summary

SJR Partners are recruiting a Senior/Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial management on highways projects in the East Midlands and beyond. The role involves overseeing multiple live contracts, mentoring junior staff and driving commercial performance across projects.

You will manage interim applications, valuations and final accounts, while maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring adherence to NEC contracts and company governance.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management is required.
  • Proven experience in a Senior or Managing Quantity Surveyor role.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent financial reporting and forecasting abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of multiple contracts from tender handover to final account.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the commercial management of multiple contracts from tender handover through to final account.
  • Manage and mentor Quantity Surveyors, Assistant Quantity Surveyors and commercial support staff.
  • Oversee the preparation, submission and agreement of interim applications, valuations and final accounts.
  • Produce monthly commercial reports for senior management.
  • Work closely with Operational Managers, Contracts Managers and Project Managers to maximise project performance.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, local authorities and supply chain partners.
  • Support the Commercial Director with business planning, forecasting and strategic commercial decisions.
  • Promote best commercial practice and continuous improvement across the business.
  • Ensure all commercial activities are undertaken in accordance with company governance, procedures and ethical standards.

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
  • Significant experience within highways, surfacing or civil engineering.
  • Proven experience in a Senior or Managing Quantity Surveyor role.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC forms of contract.
  • Experience managing multiple live projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent commercial negotiation skills.
  • Strong leadership and people management experience.
  • Ability to build long-term client relationships.
  • Excellent financial reporting and forecasting abilities.
  • Full UK Driving Licence
