Location: London (with regular travel to Leeds, can also be Leeds based)
We're looking for a Managing Director to lead an integrated buildings business unit, part of a wider group. This is a genuine build-and-scale leadership role at the intersection of technology, the built environment, and commercial growth owning the P&L, the strategy, and the team that will take the business through its next phase.
You'll bring either deep built-environment expertise with the ability to commercialise technology, or a proven track record as a venture/scaling CEO with the appetite to learn the sector fast. Either way, you'll need to earn the trust of engineers, clients and partners quickly, and translate that credibility into a real product and commercial roadmap.
Technical & Sector Leadership Build genuine understanding of building systems, technology platforms and service delivery in the integrated buildings space, and use it to shape platform product strategy.
Entrepreneurial Leadership Operate as a true entrepreneur — spot opportunities, take ownership, and build from the ground up. Run the business unit with a builder's mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, biased to action, and personally accountable for the P&L. Define the 3–5 year strategy, including market positioning, product roadmap, partnership strategy, and the unit's role within the wider group.
Sales & Market Understanding Own the commercial agenda — pricing, go-to-market, and commercial model redesign. Build out a business development function, assess sector dynamics and competitive positioning, and identify the sectors to target for growth. Package the offering into clear, marketable propositions.
Commercial Transformation & Performance Improvement Drive top-line and bottom-line improvement through pricing, product strategy, sales effectiveness and operating-model efficiency. Build scalable systems, processes and reporting to support growth, and improve delivery efficiency, forecasting accuracy and operating leverage — improving margins through process, not just cost-cutting.
People, Talent & Engagement Lead, coach and develop the operating team. Embed an operating rhythm and engagement cadence, and build the bench strength and succession planning needed to support continued growth.
