A leading charity in health and social care seeks a dynamic Managing Director to navigate challenges and implement innovative support solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in strategic planning, business management, and delivering high-quality services to vulnerable populations. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact in a respected organization with a long-standing history.
Managing Director
Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution Care Company (RMBI Care Co.)
London / Hybrid
This is an exciting opportunity to become our new Managing Director, building on the very significant progress made over the past decade. As MD you will work alongside a committed and talented group of trustees from diverse professional backgrounds and will have a relatively free hand in shaping an executive team to assist you in achieving this.
RMBI Care Co. is one of the oldest health and social care charities with a long and distinguished history reaching back to 1842 and covering over 180 years of service to freemasons, their families, and the wider community. It is both a registered charity and a limited company. We are part of the Masonic Charitable Foundation, which is our sole shareholder, although as a company and charity we have significant autonomy to operate within our governing articles of association.
In 2024/25 our income exceeded £60m per annum and the Charity holds assets with a book value of around £80m.During 2022 we raised a Retail Charity Bond on the Stock Market for £20m and our latest £16m new home development commenced on an existing site in Bury St Edmunds last year and is due for full completion in 2027.
We currently have 17 homes across England and Wales of which all except one cater for older people needing care and support, many because of a dementia or nursing need. Our remaining facility is a small community home for people with a learning disability. Our homes provide places for up to 1,000 residents with over 500 new admissions and discharges annually. All of our English homes are rated ‘good’, with three rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC, with our two Welsh Homes ‘fully compliant’ as regulated by the CIW.
The current volatility in the world coupled with ever-increasing costs of care delivery and little hope in the near future of any clear steer in national policy for social care create significant challenges for our future. We have spent much of the past five years looking at how best to develop to meet the needs of our beneficiaries whilst wrestling with Covid, war in Europe, an economic downturn and now the current international turmoil.
We are looking for an inspirational, dynamic and commercially savvy senior leader to lead our organisation through these challenges, to help us develop a contemporary approach to delivering support and to bring the passion, commitment and drive to implement that delivery.
The ideal candidate will have a track record of strategic and business planning and proven experience of providing high quality services at scale to vulnerable people in a highly regulated environment. You will also bring experience of initiating and managing change, growing income and creating cost efficiencies to maintain sound finances and be comfortable working with uncertainty in a fluid environment.
