Job Description:

We are recruiting for an experienced Planning lawyer to join our national Future Energy, Planning & Environment team at Managing Associate/Legal Director level. Due to the exciting growth plans across the team, this role can be based in any of our UK offices and is offered on a fully flexible working basis to accommodate part or full-time hours.

Your Role

As a key addition to our growing team, you can expect to be involved with:

  • Leading advice on planning issues, applications, and appeals across various sectors, especially transport and renewable energy projects.
  • Advising on nationally significant infrastructure projects.
  • Handling consenting aspects of offshore wind projects.
  • Collaborating with teams across different office locations.
  • Supervising and managing junior team members.
  • Engaging in business development and maintaining client relationships.
  • Supporting the expansion of the DCO practice.
  • Participating in Planning Know-How sessions on a rota basis.
Your Skills and Experience

We are looking for:

  • A qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered) with 7+ years PQE (or equivalent) in a similar legal setting.
  • Experience with Development Consent Orders and advising on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.
  • Experience working with public and private sector clients, especially local authorities, with an understanding of local authority governance.
  • Forward-thinking with excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills. Self-motivated with good workload and deadline management.
  • Commercial awareness with some business development experience and ability to nurture client relationships.
  • Deep understanding of client needs and acting in their best interests.
  • Contributing to a collaborative culture and mentoring junior team members.

The national Planning team handles issues like compulsory purchases, breaches of planning control, and infrastructure agreements. They have extensive experience working with local authorities, developers, and consultancies, managing planning applications, appeals, advocacy at hearings, and policy submissions.
