Job summary

Newcastle City Council is seeking a Resource Manager for the Autism and Learning Disability Service at the Welford Centre. This senior role leads staff and ensures safe, person-centred support for autistic adults and people with learning disabilities.

You will manage service delivery, budgets and quality standards, drive continuous improvement, and build partnerships with health colleagues and community partners while maintaining compliance with safeguarding and statutory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Leadership experience in local authority or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, MCA and Care Act 2014.
  • Ability to manage workload and multiple locations.

Resource Manager – Autism and Learning Disability Service

About the service:

The Autism and Learning Disability Service at the Welford Centre is a provision that supports autistic adults and people with learning disabilities, including people with complex support needs, to develop independence, exercise choice and control, and reach their full potential. The service uses person-centred approaches and works in partnership with people who use services, carers, families, health colleagues, voluntary and community sector partners, and wider Council teams to ensure that people are actively involved in their local community.

About the role:

As Resource Manager, you will lead and manage Autism and Learning Disability staff at the Welford Centre day service, to deliver safe, effective and person-centred support. You will oversee service delivery, staffing, performance, budgets, quality standards and operational procedures, ensuring services meet agreed objectives and comply with relevant legislation, policy and statutory requirements.

You will play a key role in planning and improving service provision, supporting change, contributing to policies and procedures, and building strong working relationships with internal and external partners. You will promote creative and innovative approaches, support people to express themselves and make choices, and help ensure high-quality services for autistic people and people with learning disabilities.

About you:

We are looking for someone who is calm, confident and values-led, with experience of managing staff and services in a local authority or similar setting. You will have strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, knowledge of safeguarding, the Mental Capacity Act and the Care Act 2014, and an understanding of the rights and needs of autistic people and people with learning disabilities.

You will hold, or be working towards, a relevant Level 4 qualification and a Registered Manager qualification. You will be able to manage a demanding workload, meet deadlines, support staff across multiple locations and take a flexible approach to work location, duties and hours.
