About HVDC

HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a product group in Hitachi Energy, which develops, manufactures, and sells DC transmission systems globally. HVDC technology transmits electricity over long distances and via submarine cables, and is used to connect power systems.

The Role

We are looking for an engaging and driven person to lead the cross-functional HVDC team based in the United Kingdom. You will be part of the HVDC team and report to the Head of Engineering UK.

This is an office-based role. The preferred location is Glasgow, but consideration will be given for central Birmingham for a highly suitable candidate. Please note we are unable to provide visa support for this position.

How You’ll Make an Impact

1. Lead a team of engineers within the HVDC engineering team based in Glasgow and Birmingham.
2. Provide direction on technology, safety, on-time delivery, quality, and margin improvement.
3. Support project deliverables and ensure KPIs are met.
4. Collaborate with local and global management to align on strategic and operational plans.
5. Ensure process adherence and quality assurance.
6. Model leadership by living Hitachi Energy’s Leadership Pillars: vision, collaboration, delivery, and development.
7. Drive continuous improvements, identify KPIs, and enhance efficiency within teams.
8. Implement HVDC strategic initiatives to align with business goals.
9. Plan team composition in collaboration with global managers.
10. Oversee individual and team development to meet business needs.
11. Own process adherence to ensure quality output.
12. Report on progress, team activities, and risks.

Your Background

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical field.
2. Experience or interest in management techniques, team development, or project management, preferably within BIM, Plants, or Civil sectors.
3. Strong decision-making skills, self-management, and a passion for people and technology.
4. Collaborative attitude and willingness to work in an office environment.
5. Effective communicator, proficient in Teams and O365.
6. Open-minded, curious, and problem-solving mindset, eager to improve processes and tools.
7. Understanding of deadlines and budgets, with a strong sense of responsibility and decisiveness.
