HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a product group in Hitachi Energy, developing, manufacturing, and selling DC transmission systems globally. HVDC technology transmits electricity over long distances, including via submarine cables, and connects power systems.

We seek an engaging, driven leader to head the cross-functional HVDC team based in the UK. You will be part of the HVDC team, reporting to the Head of Engineering UK.

This is an office-based role. The preferred location is Glasgow; however, consideration will be given to a highly suitable candidate in central Birmingham. Please note that we are unable to provide visa support for this position.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Lead a team of engineers across two locations (Glasgow and Birmingham).
  • Provide strategic direction focusing on safety, timely delivery, quality, and margin improvement.
  • Support project deliverables and ensure KPIs are met.
  • Collaborate with local and global management to align on strategic and operational plans.
  • Ensure process adherence and quality assurance.
  • Model leadership by embodying Hitachi Energy’s Leadership Pillars, promoting vision, teamwork, reliability, and development.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identify KPIs, and enhance efficiency and working methods.
  • Implement HVDC strategic initiatives tailored to your team to achieve business goals.
  • Plan team composition with global managers.
  • Oversee individual and team development to meet business needs, in alignment with stakeholders and customers.
  • Ensure quality output through ownership of process adherence.
  • Report on progress, team activities, and risks.

Your Background

  • Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Have a strong interest and preferably documented experience in management techniques, team development, or project management, especially within BIM, Plants, and Civil.
  • Be passionate about people and technology, decisive, and self-motivated to take full responsibility and deliver in a dynamic environment.
  • Be collaborative and willing to work in an office setting.
  • Be communicative, engaged, and proficient with digital tools like Teams and O365 for effective communication.
  • Possess an open, curious, problem-solving mindset, eager to improve existing processes and tools.
  • Understand deadlines and budgets, with a strong sense of responsibility and decision-making capability for your team.
