Job summary

BTG Recruitment partners with a high‑volume manufacturing business in Burton‑on‑Trent to recruit a hands‑on Management Accountant. You will partner with operations and department heads to understand costs, challenge performance and ensure numbers are accurate.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will support product costing, participate in operational meetings and help implement a system upgrade. This role blends hands‑on finance with business insight, at site level.

Qualifications

• Management accounting and month‑end experience within manufacturing.
• Experience partnering with operational and non‑financial stakeholders.
• Good understanding of labour and material variances.
• Exposure to standard costing, product costing or cost cards.
• Confidence to challenge stakeholders and influence decisions.
• Hands‑on approach and desire to improve performance.

Responsibilities

• Business partnering with operations, maintenance, HR, IT and other non-finance teams.
• Helping departmental managers understand and challenge their cost bases.
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting and reforecasting.
• Investigating and clearly explaining labour, material and overhead variances.
• Preparing month‑end journals and supporting the delivery of accurate management accounts.
• Managing costs throughout the reporting period to prevent unexpected movements at month end.
• Assisting with product costing and cost cards.
• Attending operational meetings and translating financial information into meaningful commercial insight.
• Deputising for the Financial Controller in meetings and on smaller projects.
• Improving financial processes, controls and reporting across the site.

Are you a Management Accountant who enjoys getting out from behind the spreadsheets and working closely with the wider business?

BTG Recruitment is partnering with a successful, high-volume manufacturing business in Burton-on-Trent to recruit a hands‑on Management Accountant. Part of a major international group, the company offers the scale and complexity of a corporate environment while allowing you to make a visible difference at site level.

This is much more than a month‑end reporting role. You will work closely with operations and department heads, helping them understand their costs, challenging performance and ensuring there are no surprises in the numbers.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will also support product‑costing activity, contribute to operational meetings and deputise on selected projects. With a systems implementation on the horizon, it is an excellent time to join the business and broaden your experience.

What will you be doing?

What are we looking for?

You will be a proactive Management Accountant who is comfortable working in a fast‑paced operational environment and enjoys building relationships outside finance.

Ideally, you will have:

• Management accounting and month‑end experience within manufacturing
• Experience partnering with operational and non-financial stakeholders
• A good understanding of labour and material variances
• Exposure to standard costing, product costing or cost cards
• The confidence to challenge stakeholders and influence decisions
• A practical, hands‑on approach and a genuine desire to improve performance

Food or FMCG manufacturing experience would be particularly valuable, although candidates from automotive, engineering, packaging or other manufacturing environments will also be considered.

Applications are welcomed from CIMA or ACCA‑qualified, newly qualified and late‑stage studying candidates. Strong qualified‑by‑experience applicants with relevant manufacturing experience will also be considered.

Experience using SAP, SAP S/4HANA or Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Navision would be advantageous.
