Job summary

The National College in Sheffield is seeking a hands-on Management Accountant to join our finance team. You will own core month-end processes, deliver detailed variance analysis, and support decision-making in a fast-paced environment.

This 3-month contract (with potential extension) offers hybrid working (one fortnightly onsite) and an opportunity to help build a more digitally focused finance function with improved processes.

Qualifications

Minimum 3 years' experience within finance (required).
Month-end reporting and variance analysis experience.

Responsibilities

Taking ownership of month-end procedures
Delivering variance analysis with insightful commentary
Managing purchase and sales ledgers
Handling bank and account reconciliations
Overseeing the central contracts store
Preparing VAT returns and liaising with HMRC
Supporting audits as needed
Leading cash flow forecasting and monitoring

The Role

We're looking for an Management Accountant who is not only technically skilled but also a proactive self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, forward-thinking environment. This is a pivotal role within our finance team - perfect for someone who enjoys taking ownership, spotting opportunities for improvement, and driving change.

You'll handle core month-end and reporting processes, but you'll also play a hands-on role in shaping financial decision-making, implementing smarter ways of working, and helping us build a more digitally focused finance function.

Job Requirements

Experience

Strong IT skills (Excel essential; Financial Force desirable)
A reactive, proactive mindset - able to take initiative and adapt quickly
Comfortable working under pressure and to tight deadlines
Able to build strong working relationships with staff at all levels
Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
Strong communication, analytical, and reporting skills

Qualifications

Recognised professional accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA)
