Management Accountant

Job Summary:

We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused Management Accountant to support the financial operations of our motor trade business. You will play a key role in the preparation of monthly management accounts, performance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting. Working closely with department heads, you’ll provide financial insights to help drive profitability and operational efficiency across the dealership(s).

This is a great opportunity for an ambitious finance professional with motor trade experience or a strong interest in the sector.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce timely and accurate monthly management accounts, including profit & loss, balance sheet, and cash flow reports.
• Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
• Perform detailed analysis of departmental performance (sales, service, parts), identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations and ensure integrity of financial data.
• Assist with end-of-year accounts preparation and audit requirements.
• Monitor vehicle and parts stock records, and investigate discrepancies or anomalies.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns and support compliance with tax obligations.
• Liaise with department managers to provide financial insights and support commercial decisions.
• Ensure DMS (e.g. Kerridge/CDK, Pinnacle) and financial systems are accurately maintained.
• Support the Finance Controller in improving internal controls, processes, and reporting efficiency.

Key Skills & Experience:

• Experience as a Management Accountant, Assistant Accountant, or similar role within the motor trade or a fast-paced commercial environment.
• Part-qualified or qualified (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, AAT) – or QBE with relevant industry experience.
• Proficient in Excel and comfortable working with large data sets and pivot tables.
• Familiarity with dealer management systems such as Kerridge/CDK, Keyloop, or Pinnacle.
• Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial matters to non-finance stakeholders.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience working in a franchised dealership or dealer group environment.
• Understanding of manufacturer bonus programs and composite reporting.
• Exposure to stock funding and vehicle margin analysis.
• Knowledge of FCA regulations and financial compliance in the motor trade.
