Job summary

Michael Page are partnering with a well-established industrial manufacturing business near Ellesmere Port to recruit an experienced Management Accountant who will own monthly reporting, financial controls and manufacturing accounting at site.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will work across management accounting, inventory and costing, and partner with production and procurement teams to drive accurate cost reporting and efficient processes.

Qualifications

• ACCA or CIMA qualification required.
• Minimum five years’ experience in finance or accounting.
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Strong month-end and management accounting experience.
• Exposure to inventory accounting, stock control and cost accounting.

Responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts and board reporting packs.
• Own the month-end close process and meet reporting deadlines.
• Prepare accruals, prepayments, payroll journals, depreciation, inventory adjustments and intercompany transactions.
• Produce P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting with variance analysis and commentary.
• Investigate manufacturing and operational variances against budget and forecast.
• Maintain robust financial controls, reconciliations and audit trails.
• Review and sign off balance sheet reconciliations and resolve outstanding items.
• Support inventory accounting, stock reconciliations and manufacturing cost reporting.
• Analyze raw material, WIP and finished goods balances.
• Collaborate with production, procurement and operations for accurate cost allocation.
• Assist with cash flow forecasting, VAT returns and statutory reporting.
• Support internal and external audits and ensure policy compliance.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of finance processes and reporting.

As part of continued growth and investment, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Management Accountant to join the finance team and take ownership of monthly reporting, financial controls and manufacturing accounting activities across the site.

Description

The key responsibilities of the Management Accountant:

• Production of monthly management accounts and board reporting packs.
• Ownership of the month-end close process, ensuring reporting deadlines are consistently achieved.
• Preparation and review of accruals, prepayments, payroll journals, depreciation, inventory adjustments and intercompany transactions.
• Production of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting with detailed variance analysis and commentary.
• Investigation of manufacturing and operational performance variances against budget and forecast.
• Maintaining robust financial controls, reconciliations and supporting audit trails.
• Reviewing and signing off balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring outstanding items are resolved promptly.
• Supporting inventory accounting, stock reconciliations and manufacturing cost reporting.
• Analysing raw material, work-in-progress and finished goods balances.
• Working closely with production, procurement and operational teams to ensure accurate cost allocation and financial reporting.
• Assisting with cash flow forecasting, VAT returns and statutory reporting requirements.
• Supporting internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with financial policies and controls.
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes, systems and reporting.

Profile

A successful Management Accountant should have:

• ACCA or CIMA qualification.
• A minimum of five years' experience within a finance or accounting position.
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Strong month-end and management accounting experience.
• A solid understanding of accruals, prepayments, journals, reconciliations and financial controls.
• Manufacturing or industrial sector experience, ideally within metals, engineering, aerospace or automotive environments.
• Exposure to inventory accounting, stock control and cost accounting.
• Strong Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP and XLOOKUP.
• Experience using ERP systems, with Microsoft Dynamics 365 knowledge highly advantageous.
• Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
