Jobs4 in Chester is seeking a Group Management Accountant to deliver timely month-end accounts, manage and develop junior finance staff, and drive process improvements across reporting and communications.

You will report to the Group Financial Controller and act as a bridge within the finance function, handling journal postings, reconciliations, VAT returns, and balance sheet oversight.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts up to review.
• Conduct balance sheet reconciliations & post journals.
• Maintain fixed asset accounting and asset register.
• Engage in reporting and variance analysis for month-end.
• Prepare VAT returns and run payment processes.
• Control AP/AR ledgers; assist in cost centre reviews.
• Support external audits and respond to audit queries.
• Delegate tasks and manage workload across clerks.
• Communicate financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
• Lead and upskill team with 1-1s.

Group Management Accountant

• Location: Chester – Hybrid working pattern after probation
• Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
• Salary: Circa £45,000 per annum. Could be flexible DOE

We are currently working with a market‑leader in Chester that are looking to recruit a Group Management Accountant, where you will be instrumental in delivering accurate and timely month‑end accounts, managing and developing junior finance employees, and improving processes, reporting, and communication. This role reports directly to the Group Financial Controller and acts as a crucial bridge within the finance department.

Day‑to‑day of the role:

• Prepare monthly management accounts up to the point of review by the Financial Controller.
• Conduct monthly balance sheet reconciliations and prepare and post various journals including accruals, prepayments, and loans.
• Maintain fixed asset accounting and the asset register.
• Engage in reporting and variance analysis to support month‑end processes.
• Prepare VAT returns and process payment runs.
• Control AP/AR ledgers and assist in cost centre reviews and budgetary controls.
• Support external audits and respond to audit queries.
• Review and analyse credit control activities to ensure efficient operation of the finance function.
• Delegate tasks and manage workload across sales and purchase ledger clerks.
• Handle internal queries and communicate financial information to non‑finance stakeholders.
• Manage a team, focusing on upskilling and conducting 1-1s.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Ideally fully CIMA qualified. Will look at QBE
• Prior experience in industry at a medium to large company, particularly within a business that undergoes external audit.
• Strong technical skills
• Proven experience at Management Accountant level with strong technical accounting capability.
• A mindset of continuous improvement, with the ability to identify and implement process enhancements.
• Comfortable managing a team
