Job description

The Role:

As a Mammographer with us, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting the breast clinics to detect breast tissue abnormalities by completing mammographic imaging studies, presenting them for diagnosis. This is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact and develop your career.

What You'll Do:

1. Greeting patients by confirming patient identification; reviewing imaging request; checking for special instructions; confirming anticipated service with patients.
2. Gain patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of imaging procedures; explaining equipment; answering questions.
3. Conduct mammography study by positioning breasts; adjusting compression mechanisms; instructing patient to hold breath; retreating to lead protected area; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors; activating equipment to take image; releasing compression mechanisms; preparing for next positioning and view.
4. Minimize radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques.
5. Maintain production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures; developing mammograms; observing mammogram results; determining necessary adjustments for optimum results; retaking mammograms as required; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation.
6. Ensure operation of mammography equipment by completing preventive maintenance; instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories.
7. Keep mammography supplies and patient drapes ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; collecting and processing laundry.
8. Document patient mammogram services by completing patient record charting.
9. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

What You'll Have:

Experience and skills:

1. Able to demonstrate post-qualification experience
2. Experience in/understanding of UK diagnostic radiography
3. Desirable - Varied experience within all aspects of radiography; general/CT/MRI/US
4. Evidence of effective staff liaison and co-operative working
5. Evidence of empathetic and a holistic approach to patient care
6. Experience in private health sector
7. Experience with resolving complaints satisfactorily
8. Some knowledge of report writing
9. Evidence of effective organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
10. Strong relationship building skills
11. Able to make independent judgments/decisions, ability to solve problems
12. Able to work flexibly to achieve GenesisCare business objectives
13. Able to act as a trainer and mentor for new/more junior staff

Qualifications and Knowledge:

1. DCR (T) or BSc (Hons) in Radiography (or equivalent)
2. HCPC registration
3. Evidence of continuing professional development

Other requirements for this role:

1. Work out of hours in order to ensure that breakdowns or crises are resolved with minimum impact to service and treatments from time to time
2. Wear a uniform, when on duty
3. Adhere to company standards in respect of appearance, behaviour and demeanour
