Job summary

Dewis Centre for Independent Living in Penarth, UK, is seeking a friendly, proactive part-time Personal Assistant to support a young client with daily activities and social outings. The role involves driving, companionship, and helping the client stay active and independent, with respect for privacy and family routines.

Hours are 10 per week, with flexibility across weekdays and weekends; pay is £17.30 per hour plus 40p per mile, and a DBS check is required before start.

Qualifications

• Must be a driver with business class insurance or eligible for Motability insurance.
• Respect for confidentiality and discretion when around the family.
• Eligible to work in the UK with a National Insurance number.
• Part-time availability with some weekend flexibility.

Job description

This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to the commencement of employment. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority.

All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that any candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins. Although this is a part‑time role, it is a legitimate position requiring the submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period. Wages will be paid on a four‑weekly basis, and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.

Someone friendly, chatty and confident, with a young outlook and a good sense of humour, who's happy to be proactive and get stuck in. You'll need to be a car driver with business class insurance, or over 25 and eligible to be insured on my Motability vehicle, as getting me to college and out and about is a big part of the role. Respect for confidentiality and for working around the family at home is important.

Driving me to and from college on college days, and joining in with the things I enjoy outside of that. That could be swimming, going to the gym, a trip to the cinema, or a social outing. It could also be a night in on the video games, which I love. Mostly it's about good company and helping me stay active and independent. There may be some support with dressing and undressing, for example when going swimming, which is why the role is for a male PA.

Hours and pay

10 hours a week, in the Penarth area, including the college run three days a week. There's flexibility on when the remaining hours fall - weekday or weekend - and we're happy to work around the right person.

Rate of pay

£17.30 per hour, plus 40p per mile.
