Job description

The role: Fabric Technician

The purpose of our Engineering Technician (Fabric) is to support the Supervisor by providing reactive and pre-planned maintenance services to building fabric and specific engineering services at various sites, following laid down procedures and safe working practices.

Key responsibilities include:
  1. Delivering a positive workplace experience across multiple customer locations.
  2. Maintaining high standards of HSE, controlling costs, driving service improvements, and enhancing customer satisfaction.
  3. Building and maintaining effective relationships within the customer organisation.
  4. Ensuring compliance with all processes, statutory requirements, engineering standards, and health & safety systems.
  5. Providing planned and reactive maintenance, including general building fabric and plumbing tasks as per the fabric competency matrix.
  6. Supporting projects and refit initiatives with the Projects & Construction team and Facilities Services Manager.
  7. Completing risk assessments and documenting work accurately.
  8. Reporting risks, defects, and losses for corrective action.
  9. Maintaining Site Activity Log Books in accordance with procedures.
  10. Participating in an Emergency Call Out Service as per the Out of Hours Rota.
  11. Supporting the development of colleagues, including cross-skilling and apprentices.
  12. Undertaking the Control of Works Authorised Person (AP) role and supporting other APs and CPs.
  13. Understanding and following environmental policies and routines to support environmental objectives.
Person Specification:
  • Competence in building fabric tasks such as plastering, joinery, glazing, plumbing, and decorating.
  • Ability to lead a small team on fabric projects.
  • Knowledge of all relevant HSE requirements and their application.
  • Attention to quality, detail, and customer needs.
  • Ability to challenge established practices constructively.
  • Proven experience in a building trade or fabric role.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards, including manual handling, legionella, PASMA, IPAF, asbestos awareness, and roof work.

Desirable: Level 3 or equivalent qualification in building fabric, and a full UK driving licence.
