Job description

We are a quarto steel plate re-roller, offering a wide range of steel plates suitable for application in numerous industrial sectors, such as construction, bridges, wind turbines, etc.

We are now looking to recruit a Maintenance Technician (with Electrical Bias) to work within our Engineering Department, ideally with a heavy engineering industry background.

The successful candidates will have excellent communication skills and a ‘can-do’ attitude, be self-motivated and enthusiastic, have excellent attention to detail, be flexible, a team player, demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised, and be willing to learn and undertake training and development in other areas to support department growth. Employees will be required to adhere to strict Health & Safety requirements.

The role involves working a Continental Shift Pattern, 42 hours, from 06:00 to 18:00 and 18:00 to 06:00 (2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off), Monday to Sunday, with a shift premium of 22.5% applicable.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain plant and equipment, contribute to installation and commissioning of new equipment, upgrade existing equipment, and support development of other engineers.
  2. Support colleagues in ensuring continuous improvements.
Primary activities include:
  1. Working safely at all times, observing instructions, procedures, permits, safety systems, lock-offs, and other protocols.
  2. Assisting in safety improvements.
  3. Maintaining plant and equipment reactively (breakdowns) and proactively (PPMs, spares buildup).
  4. Systematically establishing causes of failure.
  5. Identifying root causes and communicating with relevant personnel.
  6. Working efficiently and expediently.
  7. Communicating necessary information with team members and supervisors.
  8. Handing over incomplete work at shift end.
  9. Reporting non-conformances.
  10. Seeking assistance when needed.
  11. Recording activities as directed.
  12. Referring to records, drawings, manuals, and other materials as necessary.
  13. Complying with company policies and rules.
  14. Working effectively with colleagues and subcontractors.
  15. Performing other duties as required.
Person Specification:

Minimum education: ONC/OND/HND/HNC/NVQ III or equivalent in Maintenance/Electrical Engineering.

Experience in:

  • Electrical fault finding
  • Heavy engineering electrical maintenance or similar
  • Installation and fault finding on AC/DC motors
  • Single and three-phase supplies

Must be able to:

  • Manage time and information effectively and prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Work unsupervised and in a team.
  • Work at height if required.
