Job description

Maintenance Technician – Join Our Team at The Priory Hotel

A great opportunity has come up to join our team as Maintenance Technician at a beautiful, luxury, boutique country house hotel and restaurant. We’re looking for a skilled, practical all-rounder who takes real pride in their work and wants to help keep a historic, Grade II listed property in excellent condition for our guests.

This role would suit an experienced tradesperson with a broad background across different trades who is looking for a steadier, more relaxed pace of work, where quality matters more than speed.

This is a full-time, permanent role of 40 hours per week, worked over 5 days.

About Us: The Priory Hotel is a luxury hotel that is your home away from home. Guests come to unwind, relax and enjoy excellent fine dining in our Garden Room Restaurant, which was recently awarded its first Michelin Key. We are based at the gateway to the picturesque Isle of Purbeck and the much-loved Jurassic Coast, in the beautiful market town of Wareham, Dorset. We are set in 4 acres of beautifully tended gardens and have 17 individually furnished rooms. We are proud members of the Pride of Britain collection of hotels.

  • Diagnose and repair plumbing issues, including taps, toilets, showers, leaks and radiators.
  • Carry out electrical maintenance and repairs within your level of competence and qualification.
  • Handle general maintenance and repairs across the building, grounds and equipment.
  • Work out what is wrong with broken items, identify the tools and parts needed, and source them.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance issues reported by guests and the team, keeping disruption to guests as low as possible.
  • Plan and carry out a programme of preventative maintenance.
  • Keep the maintenance workshop, tools and stock organised and safe.
  • Work safely and follow health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Liaise with outside contractors when specialist work is needed.

About You:

  • Proven experience in a maintenance role, ideally in hospitality or a similar property.
  • A wide range of experience across different trades and areas of maintenance.
  • Decorating skills to a high level, with a strong eye for detail and a quality finish.
  • Practical experience in plumbing and electrical work.
  • A true “turn your hand to anything” attitude, with the ability to problem-solve independently.
  • Organised, reliable and able to prioritise tasks around a busy hotel.
  • Courteous and discreet when working around guests.
  • A full UK driving licence would be an advantage.

What We Offer:

  • Enviable Working Environment: Work in a stunning historic country house set in 4 acres of gardens.
  • Your Own Workshop: We have our own workshop/garage for you to make your own. It needs some reorganising after previous users, so you’ll have the chance to set it up exactly how you like it.
  • Competitive Compensation: We offer competitive rates of pay.
  • Perks and Discounts: Enjoy discounts on hotel rooms, food and beverage, and at other Pride of Britain properties. Benefit from discounted stays at Cornish holiday cottages.
  • Staff Meals: Free meals while on duty.
  • Convenience: Free parking is available if required.
