Job summary

KES Solutions UK is recruiting a Maintenance Technician for a well-established manufacturer in Peterlee. The role is permanent, with a rotating two-shift pattern (6:00am-2:00pm, 2:00pm-10:00pm) and a salary of £38,000-£42,000 per annum.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 3 qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Hands-on maintenance experience in manufacturing or similar environment.
• Experience with machinery, hand and power tools, and fault finding.
• Good health and safety understanding in an engineering context.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on plant machinery.
• Diagnose faults and perform mechanical and electrical repairs.
• Maintain pumps, motors, and control systems.
• Identify breakdowns to minimise downtime and improve reliability.
• Support plant improvements and housekeeping in the engineering department.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and to procedures.

Salary: £38,000 - £42,000 per annum

Job Type: Permanent

Shift Pattern: Rotating 2 Shift Pattern (Monday to Friday)

Days: 6:00am - 2:00pm

Backs: 2:00pm - 10:00pm

KES Solutions are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business in Peterlee for a Maintenance Technician to join their engineering team on a permanent basis.

The successful candidate will hold a minimum Level 3 qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and have practical, hands‑on engineering experience gained within a manufacturing, industrial or similar environment. You will have experience working with machinery, using hand and power tools, and carrying out maintenance, repairs or fault finding on equipment.

The Role

As a Maintenance Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring plant machinery and equipment are maintained to a high standard, helping to minimise downtime and support efficient production.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on plant machinery and equipment.
• Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical and electrical repairs.
• Carry out maintenance and repairs on pumps, motors, control systems and associated equipment.
• Identify and resolve breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
• Assist with plant clean-downs and routine equipment inspections.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and performance.
• Support plant, machinery and equipment improvement projects.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the engineering department.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A minimum Level 3 qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Previous experience working as a Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Engineer or in a similar engineering role.
• Hands‑on experience working with machinery, plant equipment and engineering tools.
• Experience carrying out planned and reactive maintenance.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• A good understanding of health and safety within an engineering environment.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience working within a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment would be advantageous.
