Qualifications

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Maintenance Technician who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The position is based in Edinburgh at Craigentinny Train Maintenance Centre.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will undertake corrective and preventative maintenance, servicing, and repair of Hitachi rolling stock assets. This is a permanent position working on a rotating day and night shift basis.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform scheduled maintenance on rolling stock according to maintenance instructions.
  • Service and prepare rolling stock.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities for maintenance processes and procedures.
  • Support the delivery of new trains and maintenance acceptance processes.
  • Complete exam tasks timely, perform basic fault rectification or repair when needed.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols.
  • Attend testing locations, main line stations, and outstations for maintenance tasks.
  • Be prepared to travel and stay overnight if required.
  • Support team leaders and managers in meeting production plans.
  • Record all work activities and stock usage in the maintenance system.
  • Work shifts to meet service requirements.
  • Assist team members as needed.
Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations, internal and external.
  • Professional representation of Hitachi.
  • Calm and diplomatic under pressure.
  • Ability to investigate electrical and mechanical faults and document findings.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Effective interaction with all levels of personnel.
  • Loyal, committed, confident, and determined.
Desired Skills/Knowledge
  • Intermediate IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to read electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics and drawings.
  • Experience with powered tools and plant (cranes, air systems, 110V tools).
  • Knowledge of depot protection, working at heights, COSHH, manual handling, and depot isolation procedures.
Education/Qualifications
  • Served apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical disciplines.
