Job summary

Hitachi Rail UK Limited in Edinburgh is seeking enthusiastic Maintenance Technicians to join our Craigentinny Train Maintenance Centre team. The role offers a permanent contract and operates on a rotating day and night shift, with a base salary of £45,532 plus a 15% shift allowance and a £3,000 location allowance.

You will service and repair Hitachi rolling stock, perform preventative maintenance, and work to safety and depot procedures while collaborating with the maintenance team to meet

Qualifications

• Served apprenticeship with mechanical and electrical disciplines.
• Engineering based NVQ Level 2 and 3.
• Ability to work in a 24/7 shift roster.
• Strong safety awareness and fault finding skills.
• Proficient with maintenance management systems (MMS) and diagnostics.
• Experience reading electrical, pneumatic and mechanical schematics.

Responsibilities

• Perform Scheduled Maintenance activities on rolling stock within a TMC environment in accordance with vehicle maintenance instructions
• Undertake servicing and preparation of the rolling stock.
• Drive duties within depot in accordance with depot operating procedures and instructions
• Actively participate in continuous improvement activities for maintenance processes and procedures
• Ensure exam tasks are completed in a timely manner and undertake fault rectification or repair
• Adherence to health and safety processes and procedures
• Attend testing locations and depots for preventative and corrective maintenance as required
• Travel and overnight away from base location for short periods
• Support Maintenance Team Leaders and Duty Shift Managers in delivery of production plan
• Record all work activities and stock consumption in the maintenance system
• Work shifts to meet service requirements of multiple customers
• Assist as required

Accountabilities

In this exciting role, you will be responsible for undertaking corrective and preventative maintenance, servicing and repair of Hitachi rolling stock assets. This is a permanent position offering the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment that values collaboration, adaptability, and innovation. You will be working on a rotating day and night shift basis, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of our rail services.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

• Perform Scheduled Maintenance activities on rolling stock within a TMC environment in accordance with vehicle maintenance instructions

• Undertake servicing and preparation of the rolling stock.

• Undertake driving duties within depot confines in accordance with the depot operating procedures and instructions

• Actively participate in the ongoing continuous improvement activities for maintenance processes and maintenance procedures that support all depot and fleet activities

• Ensure exam tasks are being completed in a timely manner, undertake fault rectification or repair when required.

• Adherence to all health and safety processes and procedures.

• Attendance at testing locations, main line station and outstations to undertake preventative and corrective maintenance as required.

• Must be prepared to travel and overnight away from base location for short periods of time.

• Support the Maintenance Team Leaders and Duty Shift Managers in the delivery of the production plan.

• Record all work activities and stock consumption using the maintenance management system in accordance with maintenance processes and procedures.

• Working shifts to meet the service requirements of multiple customers.

• Assist as required

About you

Required Skills/ Knowledge

• Manual Handling, COSHH, working at height, Powered plant and tools.

• Experience of working a 24/7 shift roster in a modern maintenance environment

• Outstanding Safety Awareness.

• Modern fault finding and repair techniques using pc-based laptops and remote diagnostics.

• Extensive experience of modern maintenance management systems (MMS) and associated reliability and available trend analysis.

• Reading electrical, pneumatic, mechanical schematics and drawings reading

Education/Qualifications

• Served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines.

• Engineering based NVQ Level 2 and 3.

• Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations (internal and external)

• Always represent Hitachi in a professional manner

• Ability to investigate complex electrical and mechanical faults and write detailed reports.
