Job summary

Sanctuary Care is hiring a Maintenance Operative for Fernihurst in Exmouth. The role is 39 hours per week with a pay rate of £14 per hour. You’ll join a not-for-profit, Investors in People Gold–accredited employer that prioritises staff development and resident care.

The role involves practical training in plumbing, safety checks, minor repairs, and maintaining the home and garden to a high standard. A driving licence and good teamwork are essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical training through maintenance tasks and repairs.

• Coordinate contractor visits and ensure work meets quality standards.
• Offer support at other Sanctuary Care homes when needed.
• Communicate clearly with residents, families and contractors.

Your role

• Access practical training to build confidence in key tasks – including plumbing essentials and repair best practices
• Benefit from development opportunities shaped by Maintenance Operative feedback
• Carry out regular health and safety checks to keep everyone safe
• Complete minor repairs and maintain the home and garden to a high standard
• Communicate clearly with residents, families, colleagues and contractors
• Coordinate contractor visits and ensure work meets quality standards
• Provide cover at other homes when needed
• Practical experience in minor repairs, basic plumbing and DIY
• Understanding of health and safety protocols (Legionella awareness desirable)
• Ability to work well with others and communicate effectively
• Valid driving licence and access to transport
• Confidence using an iPad or laptop for compliance tasks
