Job summary
Bupa is seeking a Maintenance Operative for Aston Court Care Home in Sutton Coldfield. The role focuses on keeping facilities fully functional, maintaining buildings and equipment, and ensuring compliance with SOPs and safety regulations.
You will perform planned maintenance, assist with refurbishment projects, review resident space preferences, and coordinate with approved contractors to deliver value while upholding Bupa's standards.
Qualifications
- Good understanding of building services including heating, hot and cold-water distribution, ventilation, electrical distribution and plumbing.
- Sound understanding of building fabric and its maintenance.
- Practical experience of planned maintenance systems and record keeping.
- Knowledge of statutory requirements and compliance.
- A full driving licence.
- A building/electrical/plumbing qualification or 3+ years hands-on maintenance experience.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Computer literate.
- Good customer service skills.
- Flexible to meet changing demands within the care home.
- Practical painting and decorating experience.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring health, safety and compliance checks using digital systems per procedures.
- Action and close tasks attributed to Maintenance Manager or home in compliance tools.
- Ensure safety and cleanliness to Environmental Health, Fire Authority and Legionella requirements.
- Carry out maintenance and repairs to a high standard, timely and cost-effective while preserving first impressions.
- Review residents' preferences in relation to personal space; document and action.
- Report defects, obtain quotes and manage repairs with approved contractors.
- Report irreparable defects to Home Manager or Property/Maintenance Manager.
- Manage refurbishment and capex programmes with minimal disruption.
- Ensure tools and equipment are maintained and secured.
- Assist with induction of new colleagues on emergency exits, fire points and evacuation procedures.
- Occasional maintenance support to local Care Homes within 1 hour distance.

As a Maintenance Operative, your primary responsibility will be ensuring that our facilities remain fully functional. You will maintain buildings and equipment effectively while complying with all relevant Bupa Standard Operating Procedures, legislation, and industry best practices. Your role is crucial in ensuring our accommodation meets Bupa's cultural and brand values.
Ensuring that all health and safety and compliance checks are carried out using the provided digital systems as per the timescales directed by Bupa Standard Operating Procedures and by Bupa compliance management tools and software.
Action and close any tasks attributed to the Maintenance Manager or home highlighted on Bupa compliance management tools and software.
Ensure that safety and cleanliness within the care home and grounds is to the satisfaction of Environmental Health, local Fire Authority requirements, Legionella Risk Assessment requirements and Health & Safety regulations etc.
Ensure that all necessary maintenance and repair tasks are completed to a high standard, in a timely manner and offer value for money whilst ensuring internal decoration continues to meet the organisations vision regarding first impressions.
Ensure regular review of residents' preferences in relation to their personal space is documented and actioned.
Report defects, obtain quotes and manage repairs using Bupa approved contractors, complying at all times with Bupa's Standard Operating Procedures.
Report irreparable defects to Home Manager or Property/Maintenance Manager as appropriate.
Manage Care Home elements of any refurbishment programme and capex programme of works ensuring minimal disruption to residents, visitors and staff.
Ensure that all tools and equipment are maintained and safely secured at all times.
Assist with induction of new colleagues with regard to the operation of emergency exits, fire points and evacuation procedures, keeping a record of all instructions given as required by the Home Manager, especially where the use of equipment is involved.
Although you will be located within a home there may be a requirement to provide maintenance support to a local Care Homes within a reasonable distance (no more than 1hr from normal place of work) as and when required to provide a comprehensive regional maintenance support.
