Job summary

Shaw Healthcare is seeking a dedicated maintenance professional to uphold the care home’s facilities and grounds in Greater London. You will support resident wellbeing by ensuring safe, well-maintained living spaces and essential systems.

You will perform routine upkeep, safety checks, and coordinate with contractors while prioritising regulatory compliance and residents’ needs. A reliable team player with strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities management, caretaking or a similar maintenance role.

Responsibilities

• Carry out day-to-day maintenance, repairs and general upkeep of the home and surrounding grounds.
• Complete routine inspections, servicing and safety checks, ensuring all records are maintained accurately.
• Conduct regular testing of fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, water temperatures, boilers and other essential systems in line with regulatory requirements.
• Identify and report maintenance issues promptly, arranging specialist repairs where necessary in conjunction with the Home Manager.
• Maintain tools, equipment and maintenance stores in a safe and organised manner.
• Support compliance with Health & Safety legislation, including COSHH, fire safety and infection prevention procedures.
• Be the first point of contact for maintenance requests from colleagues.
• Assist with staff inductions by supporting fire safety and emergency evacuation training.
• Participate in emergency call-outs where required.
• Support residents' outings by driving the home's minibus (where appropriately licensed and required).

Working closely with the Home Manager, you'll be responsible for maintaining the home, its grounds and essential systems to the highest standard. Your work will directly support the wellbeing, comfort and safety of our residents, ensuring the home remains a pleasant place to live and work. You'll carry out planned and reactive maintenance, oversee contractors, complete health and safety checks, and respond promptly to repairs while always considering the needs of residents, particularly those living with dementia.,

• Good practical skills across a range of maintenance disciplines
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
