Job summary

Springcare Care Homes Ltd is seeking a Maintenance Operative to join the Maintenance Team at our Head Office in Whitchurch, supporting care homes and rental properties across the Springcare Group.

You will carry out preventative maintenance, general repairs, and safety checks, work with Home Managers and contractors, and participate in an on-call rota to respond to emergencies, ensuring high workmanship and compliance with policies.

Qualifications

  • Experience in maintenance or building-related roles.
  • Qualifications or practical experience in plumbing, plastering, or electrical work is desirable.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and gas systems.
  • Good knowledge of building construction and general maintenance.
  • Previous care home experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventative maintenance and general building repairs across Springcare properties.
  • Coordinate with the Facilities & Estates Manager and Rental Administrator regarding maintenance works and timescales.
  • Support the in-house Maintenance Teams with workloads, sharing best practice and identifying training needs.
  • Liaise with Home Managers when attending sites, discussing works, timescales, and issues that may arise.
  • Carry out required maintenance checks when an in-house Maintenance Operative is unavailable.
  • Respond effectively to maintenance emergencies that may occur within our homes.
  • Liaise with external contractors and undertake contractor inductions when required.
  • Ensure all maintenance work is carried out safely and to a high standard.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including Health & Safety, Fire Regulations, and moving and handling requirements.
  • Complete required training and development in accordance with company requirements.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm)

As a member of the Maintenance Team, you will also be required to participate in a on-call rota for maintenance emergencies.

The role will require regular travel and work across other Springcare locations within the Group.

We are looking for a Maintenance Operative to join our Maintenance Team, based at our Head Office in Whitchurch, supporting our care homes and rental properties across the Springcare Group.

Main purpose of job:

The Maintenance Operative will support the Facilities & Estates Manager and Rental Administrator in overseeing and carrying out maintenance works across the Springcare property portfolio.

The role will involve carrying out preventative maintenance, general building repairs, and maintenance checks across our care homes and rental properties, ensuring a high standard of workmanship and excellent service at all times.

You will work closely with Home Managers, the Maintenance Team, contractors, and other colleagues to ensure maintenance works are completed safely, efficiently, and within agreed timescales.

Key responsibilities include:

Carry out preventative maintenance and general building repair works across Springcare properties.

Coordinate with the Facilities & Estates Manager regarding maintenance works and agreed timescales.

Support the in-house Maintenance Teams with workloads, sharing best practice and identifying any training needs.

Liaise with Home Managers when attending sites, discussing works to be completed, timescales, and any issues that may arise.

Carry out required maintenance checks when an in-house Maintenance Operative is unavailable.

Respond effectively to maintenance emergencies that may occur within our homes.

Liaise with external contractors and undertake contractor inductions when required.

Ensure all maintenance work is carried out safely and to a high standard.

Skills and experience required for this role:

Experience of working in a maintenance or building-related role.

Ideally, qualifications or practical experience in areas such as plumbing, plastering, and electrical work.

Knowledge and experience of mechanical, electrical, and gas systems.

Good knowledge of building construction and general maintenance.

Previous experience working within a care home environment would be desirable.

Good time management and the ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload.

Able to work calmly and effectively under pressure.

Good problem-solving skills and the ability to use your own initiative.

Good communication and listening skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with a wide range of people.

Able to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.

Willingness to undertake further training and qualifications as required.
