Job summary

St Andrew’s Healthcare in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead the hospital's maintenance function, ensuring a safe, compliant environment for patients and staff.

You will manage planned and reactive maintenance, coordinate contractors, oversee building services (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety) and support capital projects while controlling costs and maintaining accurate records.

Lead the Maintenance Function in a Specialist Healthcare Environment

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance Manager to join our inpatient hospital in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled maintenance professional to take ownership of the site's maintenance operations, ensuring a safe, secure, and compliant environment for our patients, colleagues, and visitors.

Working within a highly regulated healthcare setting, you will lead the day-to-day maintenance function, manage contractors, oversee planned and reactive maintenance activities, and ensure all statutory compliance requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate all maintenance activities across the hospital site.
  • Manage planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules and reactive repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety, environmental, and statutory regulations.
  • Oversee contractor management, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to the required standards.
  • Monitor and maintain building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, and fire safety systems.
  • Support capital projects, refurbishments, and site improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, compliance documentation, and asset registers.
  • Work closely with clinical and operational teams to minimise disruption and maintain a safe environment.
  • Assist in budget management and identify opportunities for cost-effective improvements.
About You

We are looking for a hands-on maintenance professional with strong leadership skills and experience managing facilities within a complex environment.

You Will Ideally Have
  • Previous experience in a Maintenance Lead, Maintenance Manager, Facilities Manager, or similar role.
  • Experience overseeing maintenance operations within healthcare, secure environments, social care, hospitality, manufacturing, or comparable settings.
  • Strong knowledge of building services and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Excellent contractor management and organisational skills.
  • A recognised qualification in a relevant trade or building services discipline.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and compliance standards.
