Job summary

Ruth Wagstaff Recruitment is seeking an experienced Maintenance / Engineering Manager for a global engineering organisation supporting one of the UK's most advanced automated distribution centres. The role leads the on-site engineering function, develops a high-performing team and drives reliability, service and efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in engineering, 3+ years in a management role within maintenance or engineering, and strong experience in automated logistics or

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years in a management role within maintenance/engineering.
  • Experience in automated logistics, warehousing or complex engineering environments.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance and reliability engineering.
  • Experience managing teams, budgets, KPIs and customer relationships.
  • Good commercial awareness and stakeholder mgmt skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and mentor the on-site maintenance and engineering team.
  • Create a culture focused on safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Act as main customer contact and ensure exceptional service delivery.
  • Deliver KPIs for system availability, engineering performance, quality and cost.
  • Develop preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to maximise reliability.
  • Drive continuous improvement to enhance system performance and efficiency.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, resources and priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
  • Monitor performance through CMMS systems, reporting and analysis.

As Maintenance / Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for leading the on‑site engineering function, developing a high‑performing maintenance team and ensuring industry‑leading levels of system reliability, customer satisfaction and operational performance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop and mentor the on‑site maintenance and engineering team.
  • Create a positive culture focused on safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Act as the main customer contact, developing strong working relationships and ensuring exceptional service delivery.
  • Deliver agreed KPIs for system availability, engineering performance, quality and cost.
  • Develop preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to maximise equipment reliability.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve system performance and operational efficiency.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, engineering resources and operational priorities.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company procedures and engineering standards.
  • Monitor engineering performance through CMMS systems, reporting and performance analysis.
Qualifications
  • Degree qualified or equivalent in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of three years in a management role within maintenance, engineering or technical services.
  • Experience in automated logistics, warehousing, material handling, manufacturing, FMCG or other complex engineering environments.
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance, reliability engineering and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Experience managing engineering teams, budgets, KPIs and customer relationships.
  • Good commercial awareness and excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience using CMMS systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
