Job description

We are currently looking for a Maintenance Fitter - Mechanical to join our team based at Tarmac Cairneyhill Quarry and Asphalt Plant, Caldercruix, Airdrie (near Glasgow). This site is accessible from Glasgow, Falkirk, Grangemouth, Broxburn, Carluke, Bellshill, Hamilton, Kirkintilloch, Rutherglen, Bishopbriggs, and surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Responding to plant breakdowns to ensure assets are returned to production promptly, with follow-up on temporary fixes for permanent solutions.
  2. Undertaking emergency breakdown repairs efficiently on all production equipment.
  3. Owning small-scale projects and delivering them pragmatically and proactively.
  4. Taking a cost-conscious approach to maintenance activities.
  5. Coordinating with contractors and suppliers on-site.
  6. Participating in root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures.
  7. Contributing to continuous improvement through observations and experience.
  8. Welding and fabricating to a good standard.
  9. Working with risk assessments and method statements.
  10. Developing safe working methods for repair procedures.
  11. Maintaining and promoting health & safety rules and regulations, following all company processes.
  12. Challenging unsafe conditions and reporting them accordingly.
  13. Utilising the computerised maintenance management system to record work, faults, spares, and repairs.
The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work with minimal supervision. Proven experience in an industrial or factory environment is essential. Candidates should have:

  • A recognised apprenticeship (preferably higher-level).
  • ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential).
  • A strong practical mechanical systems background, especially in heavy industry (conveyors, drive systems, motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens).
  • Fault-finding abilities and recommended actions.
  • Capability to undertake emergency repairs efficiently.
  • IT literacy, including PC and systems use.
  • Ability to assess and control SHE risks and knowledge of site-specific SHE procedures.
