Job summary

Mane Contract Services in Barnsley is seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer with a strong electrical bias to join a busy manufacturing site. The role encompasses electrical and mechanical maintenance, fault-finding, and continuous improvement to maximise machine availability.

You will work hands-on, reading drawings, installing and maintaining equipment, and supporting improvements. NVQ Level 3 electrical qualification and manufacturing experience are preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on electrical and mechanical plant.

Job description

Salary: £40,000 – £46,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Hours: 40 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

The Role:

We are recruiting an experienced Maintenance Engineer with a strong electrical bias to join a busy manufacturing site in Barnsley.

You will be responsible for keeping electrical and mechanical plant running safely, reliably and efficiently. This is a hands-on role involving planned preventative maintenance, rapid response to breakdowns, and continuous improvement work to maximise machinery availability and minimise downtime.

The ideal candidate will be electrically qualified and confident carrying out both electrical and mechanical fault-finding and repairs in a heavy industrial / manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on electrical and mechanical plant and machinery
• Respond quickly to breakdowns and diagnose electrical and mechanical faults
• Complete repairs and maintenance work safely, efficiently and to a high standard
• Read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
• Undertake electrical installation, testing and maintenance
• Perform mechanical maintenance tasks including changing bearings, gears and other components
• Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer, Electrical Maintenance Engineer or similar role in a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment
• Electrical qualification to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Solid mechanical maintenance and fault-finding ability
• Experience reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings

Experience with any of the following is advantageous:

• Overhead and jib cranes
• Plasma and gas cutting equipment
• Industrial saws and drilling machinery
• Welding and grinding equipment
• Forklifts and side loaders
• Heavy fabrication or structural steel machinery

What We’re Looking For:

A hands-on, reliable and technically capable Maintenance Engineer who takes ownership of both electrical and mechanical maintenance across a busy industrial site.

You will have a strong electrical background but be equally comfortable carrying out mechanical repairs and general maintenance. Confidence working independently, diagnosing faults under pressure, and seeing jobs through to completion is essential.

Experience in structural steel, heavy engineering, fabrication or a similar manufacturing environment would be particularly valuable.
